    Re: Guard Combination

I love Colvin's game and have since I saw him in the CCL league. He made some TO's and looked erratic at times but he gives us something we haven't had at the PG position for a while. I would like to see him come off the bench and get 15 minutes a game.

DG start but I like to see him move over to the 2 spot a lot as well

I'm on the fence on who should start between Scott and Lucca. Scott looked better last night but it is only one game

Buckley to get 15 minutes at the point as well. His shot looks a lot more smooth IMO

    Re: Guard Combination

Right now, I like the combination of Garrett/Christopherson, but like Buckley/Lucca nearly equally. What's great is that almost any combination of those four can work in certain situations. I love what Colvin brings to the table, but he just needs experience right now; he's going to look great at times, and lost at times, IMO.

Off Topic: Does anyone know the correct pronounciation of "Colvin"? Heft/Walters were saying "Call-vin", but I always thought it was "Cole-vin".

    Re: Guard Combination

I like Chris at the pt but DG seems to get lost at the 2. DG has more poise and does a good job of running the show but Chris seems to be more athletic and have better vision dishin' the ball.

    Re: Guard Combination

Chris Colvin is definitely a solid player. I hope they use him a lot more. He seems VERY confident and comfortable being a floor general. Plus he was definitely looking to make plays instead of running around top of the key. Buckley has improved drastically since last year. All of the PGs seems to have better shooting as well. As Mac mentioned in his post game Q&A, you can see Diante's maturity level in shot selections that he made (instead of launching threes, use quick fake and get closer to the basket then 10-15 footer). I can definitely see Colvin taking over PGs role lot more as the season goes.

Love the experience and leadership...could be really good in the right situations

DG seems to have started off on the absolute right foot and is shooting well!

    Re: Guard Combination

I agree that it is too early to tell, but we could see some three guard lineups as well. I was very impressed with the skills of both SC and CC. They have bright futures ahead of them.

    Re: Guard Combination

It's almost an embarassment of riches compared to years past. I think that Colvin has the potential to be the best point guard out of the 3, but right now he is clearly #3. I was impressed with Buckley's shooting. Diante was solid.

Christofferson surprised me with how fast he was. He has a nice ability to get to the basket too.

Lucca looked a little bit off......I'm curious if we will try and play him at the small forward some. He has so much talent, but looked a bit slow compared to the other guards.

Boozer has learned about how to play defense. He is going to see minutes based on the fact that he can play defense. The difference between Gilstrap and Dendy on defense and Boozer on defense was vast.

I am hoping that this team has completely bought into the team concept. There will be days when players could get mad about playing time, but hopefully they'll all suck it up and realize that the goal is to get to the NCAA as a TEAM.

But to answer the question, the guard combo with the most potential is probably Colvin/Christofferson. The pick right now would be Garrett/Christofferson.

    Re: Guard Combination

I think you can lose a shooter if you have a high powered offense in there.....for example I like Buckley/Garrett if you have Gilstrap, Dendy, and Brackins in there. I don't think I like it if you put in Hamilton and Boozer. Of course, you are giving up points on the other end with Gilstrap and Dendy both in there.

    Re: Guard Combination

I like the fact that we don't have to rush Colvin into a starting role. We can let him develop into a starting player but for the majority of this year, we won't be forced to use him. I also love the fact that we have an upperclassmen with experience running the show in Diante. I think that he is going to be pretty good in that role this year and with more scorers on the floor, we should be a better team overall.

with that said, the future looks bright, I just wish that we have a stud center coming in next year to contribute down low.

I noted in my GBU that this combo with Dendy, Gilstrap and Craig could be amazingly awesome on offense. 3 big guys that can score from anywhere, DG can score when he wants to and let Buckley run the floor. Literally could run the hell out of teams with this.

I'd need to see more of it though.

    Re: Guard Combination

CC and SC were both really getting after it on the defensive end. CC has the skills to be the best guard defensively.

    Re: Guard Combination

If Buck could shoot as well as he did last night I'd love to see him and Garrett on the floor. I was very impressed with Christopherson last night. I doubt he's as good a shooter as Lucca (guy is just so effortless) but he can handle the ball a lot better. Lucca got a little out of control with the dribble in the second half ending with a steal and a spot on the bench.

Right now I'd like to see Garrett/Christopherson and more Buckley/Garrett.
