    Chiefs to release Larry Johnson

Jeff Risdon/RealGM - The Kansas City Chiefs will sever ties with problematic running back Larry Johnson, according to a team source that spoke to RealGM's Jeff Risdon on Tuesday afternoon.

The league and the team are investigating a pair of recent incidents, including one where Johnson used a gay slur. This is not the first time Johnson has gotten himself in trouble by using a gay slur, having had to apologize for the same offense last season. He was forced to apologize for this, as well as for negative comments directed at head coach Todd Haley. Haley has thus far refused comment.

The team has barred Johnson from any contact with the team.

This is a precursory move before the team formally releases Johnson before the end of the week, according to the source.

Part of the delay in releasing him involves going through the NFLís disciplinary investigation, but the source was adamant that Larry Johnson has played his last game in Kansas City.

Got what he deserved. KC continues to implode.

This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone; with what he said about Haley it was kind of a foregone conclusion...

Re: Chiefs to release Larry Johnson

As a Chiefs fan, I maintain the much bigger problem is Todd Haley rather than Larry Johnson. Much bigger.

Somehow he'll fit in in New England.

Re: Chiefs to release Larry Johnson

I'd say a bigger problem than both of them is the offensive line. What exactly did he say about Haley?

For the record my wife is thrilled about this because now he won't break Priest's team rushing record.

Time to see what Jamal Charles can do. As long as he can hold onto the football he's got more big play potential than LJ does at this point.

Re: Chiefs to release Larry Johnson

It was a mistake to sign him to the long term contract several years ago. They should have traded him for whatever they could get this last off season. They have no offense line, there was no way he was not going to implode this year. He already had that track record.

Todd Haley is not going to be a very successful NFL coach based off of his start. When your a good guy and you lose, you get some leeway. When you lose spectacularly, and your an arrogant ***, you don't get the benefit of the doubt. Reminds me of Chizik.

You mean like when you fire your OC right before the regular season, and the offense has sucked since? Yeah, I'd say he's arrogant, and without much justification...

I can see him going to Green Bay, Seattle, or Arizona.

Larry and his agent played the Chiefs like a fiddle. You could tell by his comments he was trying to get cut. I hope no one picks him up.

Re: Chiefs to release Larry Johnson

Here in KC they are saying they don't think he will be released this week. I would think they would wait for the league to suspend him. If the chiefs keep him it is an "excuse" that could be much needed for Mr Haley

Since Green Bay re-signed Ahaman Green last week, I don't see LJ going to GB.
