Re: Hawkins Trying To Save His Job at CU??

    He's definitely on borrowed time.

Years ago, that looked like a great hire, CU was praised for getting him from BSU and I thought it would be a couple years - and CU would be contending for Big 12 North titles. I don't think many felt it was a bad move.

It's really blown up for them. On field production obviously hasn't been there, but his comments off-field have just made it worse.

Hawkins is such a ****** that he has turned Colorado into the only team in the Big XII that I actively cheer against in every single game they play.

That is how I felt at the time they hired him as well. It seemed like a great hire and CU would get back to being a contender in quick fashion. This guy seems exposed in a bigger market...not as savvy as I thought?

Changed the quote to a make it a little closer to home.

Re: Hawkins Trying To Save His Job at CU??

I'd have to think a huge reason he should get canned (or at least some folks on his staff) was moving from double-covering Blythe in the first half and then single-covering him in the 2nd in that '07 ISU-CU game.

Re: Hawkins Trying To Save His Job at CU??

The problem is that CU financially can't afford to buy him out at this time so I don't think it's a slam dunk that he's gone after this season.

Re: Hawkins Trying To Save His Job at CU??

I use to do business in the Montana, Idaho, Washington region, and one of the guys I did business with went to Boise State (Tried to walk on the FB team) When Hawkins took the Job at CU, I asked him how it would affect Boise St. His response was....that Hawkins won off the previous coaches players and it was no loss at all. He even predicted that Colorado would not improve, if anything they would get worse. He was not a DH fan to say the least.

I am OK with Dan Hawkins staying at Colorado.

Hawkins should have paid big bucks to bring Chris Petersen with him.

After watching ISU lose Steve Looney, Paul Rhoads and other pretty good assistants, I can see how Hawkins has struggled a bit.

I think it's been pretty well proven by now that Chris Peterson was the brains behind Dan Hawkin's operation.

Re: Hawkins Trying To Save His Job at CU??

Hawkins is great for business...if your business is beating Colorado.

I do long for the days though when CU coaches would say things like, "not only is she a girl, but she sucks."

It looks like CU should have left Dan in Boise and took Chris Peterson. Obviously he was the brains and Dan was the balls in that operation.

Re: Hawkins Trying To Save His Job at CU??

Team leaders called for a meeting without coaches Monday. "They talked about how 'We're there,' " Hansen said. "We just need to believe that we can do it."
It sounds like Hawkins statement may have been more to get the players rallied behind him than the athletic department. Maybe the CU players saw the ISU celebration video and started grumbling that their coach doesn't stand behind them like that.
