    James Smith

Can somebody please clear up for me what James did exactly to get ejected from the game? I did not see what he did.

A NU player knocked him to the ground when the play was pretty much over but before the whistle was blown. He got up and gave the NU player a cheap jab to the neck. The officials saw only that and acted on it.

    Re: James Smith

Should've been called for the personal foul but he shouldn't have been ejected for it. The guy was wearing a helmet, its not like a slap upside the head is a big deal in football.

You must not know the rule. Any deliberate shot to the head of an opposing player is an automatic ejection. It was the correct call and not a smart play. He deserved to be ejected. Was it harmful? No. Did he intend to hurt the guy, probably not, but he still hit him in the head.

It's all snark from here on out

    Re: James Smith

Yeah that sucks, I didn't know that was a rule. He didn't hit him too hard, it was stupid... that guy totally laid him out right before that.

    Re: James Smith

Actually, that was a huge thing for field position at the time. However, he played a fantastic game. I think that he can go in at halftime against A&M. Is that right?

    Re: James Smith

I guess I didn't know the rule. It was clearly a 15 yarder, but it seemed like the ejection was over the top. If that's the rule, then it makes sense.

    Re: James Smith

If this could be a team "lesson learned" and we don't lose a game because of it, I think it is awesome.
In College Station, expect about 3 or 4 of those opportune offensive holding penalties like the one that killed the second to last real possession when we were driving to ice game. I tell you, we've gotten them before in Texas.
I hope all our kids are reviewing the "celebration" penalty also....if we are competitive in most of our last games, I would hate for a biased referee to see some opportunity to whip that flag out because someone jumped in the air while looking at the crowd or something, and that cost us a game. We are Iowa State, the ref.s will try to let the other team win. I remember getting one in 2002 or so on the road in Manhatten or somewhere and it was so innocent and run-of-the-mill, but we got a killer flag for it.
