    Dorm selection help

My son's best friend was just accepted to ISU and he would like help in selecting a dorm. It's been a long time since I graduated so I'd like to get some ideas for the best dorms for him. I'm assuming he'll just get a standard double.

What are the best dorms to choose?

    Re: Dorm selection help

If he's very picky then tell him to make Martin and Eaton as his first choices. These are the nicest but fill up quickly. The Linden/Oak Elm dorms are also nice and are in a great spot. Other than those I think the rest are about the same but next I'd put down MWL because of the new dining center and proximity to everything.

    Re: Dorm selection help

Best choice I made other than going to ISU was to live in BWR, old RCA. All guys dorm with hilarious stuff going on all the time. I lived in welch-bergman. Weekly competitions between all the houses of the dorms which include, matress races, football, ultimate frisbee and many others. Lots of good memories.

Yea, but that's not gonna seem so important if this kids doing engineering or design and has cross all of campus everyday to get to class.

If you are in engineering or science, Friley is probably a good choice. I lived in Old RCA (Linden to be exact, hence my name), and it was pretty fun out there. Much more co-ed.

    Re: Dorm selection help

I lived in Helser my freshman year and Martin (Suites 2) my sophmore year. I would defiantly tell him to live on the west side of campus due to the Union Drive Community Center (UDCC). It has way more selections then the east side of campus to eat. Unless something has changed over the past 3 years.

Also, like everyone mentioned, have him find out where his college of choice (i.e. engineering, agriculture, design, etc) is and decide on that. It sucks walking across campus in the middle of winter.
