    What pressure is on Chizik?

It seems apparent that Chizik wants to make an immediate impact in the Big 12 North and the non conference schedule, but is that possible? Chizik was on the coaching fast track when he took the ISU job, so he has to see opportunity to win, sooner than later. He will be the one putting pressure on himself, as ISU fans don't have super high expectations. Here are what I rate as the biggest factors that will impact his success:
    1. Will Meyer return to his Soph. form?
    2. Can the new offensive linemen block
    3. Can the defensive line create any kind of pass rush
    4. Can last years disasterous play by the secondary improve
    5. Are the new running backs for real?
Lots of questions...only thing that looks pretty solid is our linebackers and Blythe it seems to me. I'm interested in others takes on this...

Re: What pressure is on Chizik?

I am looking for competitiveness (I think that is a word). Too many times in the McCarney era did we just not compete. We would fold anytime we played a team that was heavily favored. I want to see a team with an attitude that they can beat anyone. I want to win the games we are favored in and pull one, maybe two upsets.

All I'm expecting is some assurance that the ship has been righted. Anything beyond that is gravy.

Re: What pressure is on Chizik?

IMO, I think Pollard has put a lot of pressure on him, indirectly but pressure none the less.

Pollard is taking a lot of gambles with a lot of ISU money to hire Chizik, upgrade the facilities, tickets, etc. (which I am behind 100%). Chizik needs to make sure that Pollard is successful and Pollard needs to make sure Chizik is successful. They will only succeed if the other suceeds...

That's the beauty of it all!

I don't see a ton of pressure on him for at least this year. I am just looking forward to having a gameday coach that will put opponents away when given the chance.

Re: What pressure is on Chizik?

I think there's maybe a little more pressure than usual for a "standard" football program, partially because of the season ticket situation.

Naturally, there are going to be people with unrealistic expectations for this year, but I think the majority of the fanbase realizes that instant gratification isn't going to happen. Even Barry Alvarez took four seasons before he won more than 5 games, so I (and probably a lot of people), just want to see improvement, and solidly winning 4 games is an improvement. Anything beyond that is just a bonus in my eyes. I DO honestly think we can win six games this year, and if we beat Iowa or have ONE win against the Big 4 in our conference schedule (@ Nebraska, @ Tech, UT and OU), there will be a lot of optimism going into the 07-08 season, especially with the difficulty of the conference schedule dropping down.

Re: What pressure is on Chizik?

This year's football should be competitive we should have a soild offense our defense should be great at linebacker especially and our secondary can't get much worse. I expect at least 5 wins but we should be able to get more. Last season was a result of a tougher schedule bad blocking that grounded our offense and a young secondary that didn't allow us to blitz much to create pressure on the QB.

Re: What pressure is on Chizik?

I really wonder if the new guys that played in the secondary CAN develope, or don't have the ability to play the position. We were so outclassed late in the season it was pathetic. I was at the CU game, and we made a medocre QB look like Payton Manning. There are a few new guys, but last years guys HAVE to step up for us to have a chance to win. And our non existant pass rush has to change dramatically as well.
If anyone can pull this off, Chizik can. I'm hopeing for 6-6. An Iowa win could cook Ferentz goose if they are disappointing again this year.

Re: What pressure is on Chizik?

Chizik has been at programs where pressure was the name of the game. We at ISU just learned how to spell it when Pollard showed up. And I'm glad.

Re: What pressure is on Chizik?

The most pressure Chizik will receive will be from Chizik himself. Here's a man who hates to loss. Right away we'll see an attitude of a winner. Losing to underdogs, will be nothing but a bad memory. And we'll begin getting excited about upsetting someone. We could actually be 4-0 heading to Lincoln. The first upset?

Let's start with winning any game that doesn't come down to the last play.

Re: What pressure is on Chizik?

Biggest expectation is to improve week to week while being competitive.

Next would be team unity, the mentality they would go to battle for each other, regardless of position. Did not have that for the last 2 - 3 years.
