    Gilstrap's 2nd yr of eligibility?

Anyone know, when we will find out if they give Gilstrap another year? Sorry if has been discussed recently, or has been decided. Thanks for any info.

Doubt they will. If he was on any other team like Dook Or UNC they would.

    Re: Gilstrap eligibility

For some reason this thread made my heart skip a beat when I first saw it...thought you were going to say there was an issue with is eligibility. That would be something that would happen to us, especially after a relative "high" coming from Saturday.

Not sure but I think you have to wait until the season is over to appeal for another year.

They still haven't been able to submit the case yet. I've been told that it will be March or April before anything is known.

Who is "they?" Seriously I'm just curious if it's done by compliance and if so what does our compliance staff look like in terms of background. Early in my career I had a mid major D1 coach I knew who had an athlete end up needing the 6th year. She redshirted her freshman year, then during her 3rd year of competition in the first minute of the first game she blew her ACL. The coach wasn't happen with the ex athlete's they were employing in Compliance. They were unwilling even to ask for th 6th year initially. She asked me to look into it a little. So I made some calls and found out that the Unversity of Florida had just recently had a kicker on the football team granted a sixth year. So I called the UofF and got in touch with the asst SID for football who explained to me that they hadn't really expected to get it apprvoed but tha tthey have a staff full of lawyers and a several law student interns, so they drafted up the appeal, and ended up getting the 6th year granted, which until that point had been unheard of. And my friend, she could never get compliance to much more than a half way job at her school, even though we put together a lot of the research and arguments for them, and even in the end offered to write the appeal for free.

Interesting fact. Pregnancey is an automatic 6th year of eligibility. If an athlete redshirts as a freshman. Ends up getting pregnant anytime during their next four years they automatically get the 6th year to compete. So if as a junior you blow our your ACL competing, you have to appeal and odds are you won't get the 6th year, but if you make the concious or drunk choice to do the nasty and get pregnant you get the 6th year automatically.

Re: Gilstrap's 2nd yr of eligibility?

Well first off we know we have a bad track record when it comes to eligibility issues and the NCAA. Second, this might be thinking too far ahead but some think Gilstrap is NBA talent so 1 good season might be all he needs to go pro anyways.

Do you have any evidence of this? I find your woe-is-me attitude pathetic.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I thought I've heard they no one will know until late in the season at best, if not after.

From what I have read, his circumstances are different than anything you cover here. I am almost certain that he has not been pregnant.

Seriously, I believe his reasons for dropping out are not ones the NCAA wants to see happen on a regular basis so I doubt he would be considered for a sixth year.

Re: Gilstrap's 2nd yr of eligibility?

I don't think an athlete can appeal for a 6th year until after they have completed their 5th year.

I also think that the NCAA normally only grants a 6th year to those players who have missed 2 years with medical hardship. If so, the 2 years that Gilstrap sat out would have to somehow be classified as medical hardship in order for him to get a 6th year.

great story re. your experiences. appreciate you sharing it.

the reason why pregnancy is an automatic clock extension is pretty obvious if you think about it.

Katie Robinette didn't get another year, but I think it was because she transferred within the conference.
