Cyclones of the Week: Nebraska Game

I think that we need to vote on our Cyclones of the Week after yesterday's upset.

We usually just vote on offense and defense but I feel like Mike Brandnter was maybe Iowa State's player of the game yesterday. Other than the one bad punt, Brandnter knocked five inside of the twenty, and who can forget his fake?

Just my two cents right there.

On offense, I'm going with Jerome Tiller. His stats were not gaudy but as a freshman, he looked poised in one of college football's toughest environments. Tiller is my guy.

I'll take Jesse Smith on defense. 12 tackles, a pick and a forced fumble. He had the flu too. I'm anxious to read what you guys have to say.

    Gotta disagree Chris.

Jesse Smith all the way wins MVP. Take him out of the equation and we lose that game.

Jesse is a good choice, but I think I could give out a game ball to the defense. Simms, Lyle, and Jesse all were great.

I like the MB pick too.

Jesse Smith MVP of the game. Brandtner a close second. Might I also mention Mike O'Connell's play after stepping in for Benton in the Nickel and James Smith at Safety? He played very well today.

Offensively I think you have to look at the O-Line again. We just faced arguably one of the best defenses in the nation and gave up 1 sack and I think just a couple runs for losses.

the entire defense!!! 8 turnovers, 6-7 of which were forced. Those guys have taken a lot of criticism, both on these boards and in the media. I think you have to tip your hat to them this week.

Holtz gave Jesse a helmet sticker for his game.

Re: Cyclones of the Week: Nebraska Game

I can't tell if Brandtner was intentionally kicking balls off the side of his foot or if he just wasn't getting much distance. He had a couple poor punts yesterday distance wise. Regardless, he did put several punts inside the 20.

I think the defense as a whole deserves all the credit for the win. Jesse Smith played very well, but how about guys like David Sims and Leonard Johnson and Kenard Banks? Not only did these guys come up with some of those turnovers, but more importantly, they were causing them.

MVP goes to Jesse. Offensively I give it to Osemele for 1 play, falling on Tiller's fumble. We avoided disaster on that play.
