    TT Game Officiating Critique

I never like to blame a game on the officials, but I did think that they screwed us for about 12-15 minutes in the second half. They called a pretty even game in the first half, and then whatever Knight said to them to start the second worked for him. The foul count stayed pretty even, but as much pressure as they were putting on us they should have had more. Also, the charge/block calls went against us every single time until the end when Tech was up 7. Now that being said, they did a pretty nice job for the last 4-5 minutes of the game in calling it fairly, and they didn't cost us the game. However, if they had called it as bad for the end of the game as those 12-15 minutes of the second half we'd have all been screaming buffoons after the game and pulled a UNLV football finish on them.

On an unrelated note, Knight sure wasn't pleased with Daryl Dora tonight. After Jiri made him his whipping boy for the first 2 minutes and got him 2 fouls, Dora sat the rest of the half and the first 6 of the second. He came in, got schooled again, and came directly out until somebody fouled out very late. I for one was a lot happier seeing their back up posts as opposed to another outside weapon in there for them.

“I’m just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard,” Eustachy joked. “If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, he’ll be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.”

    Re: TT Game Officiating Critique

I am saying this objectively and I'm sure if I was at the game I might offer a different opinion, but the only CLEAR poor call tonight was the "block" called on Clark with about 3 min left when Jackson clearly charged. Honestly, it was a very intense game, but the rest of the calls were pretty spot on whether you wish to believe me or not. TIVO does not lie and I took full advantage of TIVO on many calls that the crowd thought were poor only to decide the officials got it right.

The block call on Clark was horrendous though and it was at a critical part of the game.

Refs stunk. Not sure why they are in love with Daruis Jackson. I have seen better refereeing for sure.

lets take the high road on this. no need to critique the officials unless you were in better position to see that calls and have a certification to prove you know what your talking about.

Is it odd Jackson made it through the game without fouling anyone?

    Re: TT Game Officiating Critique

I was at the game, but there were only 3-4 calls I thought were horrendous. 1 being the Clark block, the second being Jiri rebound to get knocked out of his arm by TT and going OB to Tech (turnover), I was right there, and thought it was bad, and then McIntosh and the TT player arm fighting, then McI getting shoved off balance (no call). Other than that, it didn't seem too terrible, but the crowd sure did hate that bald ref.

Yeah, the entire game wasn't awful, but the moments that they were..... were AWWWWWFFFUUUULLLLL. Good Lord. Just sucks that any real hope of an NIT bid had to end like that.

Knight wanted clarification on who the foul was on, then he claimed it was on another guy (that was 4 on the guy they called it on). He wanted it reviewed and the explained it was unreviewable.

(all based on what the tv announcers were saying)

    Re: TT Game Officiating Critique

The thing about the bad calls is that a lot of times it was made by a ref that was out of position. I've been through ref training with Randy Heimerman (who was the one getting chewed out by Knight on Wednesday night) and there is no way the ref on the far side should be making a call on the near side of the paint. And they also had other calls where the ref who should be watching off-ball made an on-ball call. Maybe that is the way it is supposed to be, but I highly, highly doubt it.

THOSE REFS SUCKED!!!! i didnt read any other posts yet... so ya...
BUT HOLY COW THAT WAS TERRIBLE!!! that was one of the worst jobs officiating i have ever seen!!

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: TT Game Officiating Critique

I have yet to see a win / loss record in relationship to any referee crew..?

They are not responsible for missed shots, turnovers, poor rebounding, lack of execution, missed free throws ect....

They call the game as they see it, maybe different from us as fans, but it goes both ways for both teams....

The referees did not cost us this game!

    Re: TT Game Officiating Critique

ARE U SERIOUS!! yes i know we missed some baskets and free throws and had turnovers, but some of those calls were terrible and some of the no calls were terrible..
    couple of examples
When Jiri got the ball and was falling he wasnt even holdin onto the ball and he got called fro traveling.
When Jackson, i believe, brought the ball up the court late in the game the whole time he was pushing off McIntosh right in front of the refs
All of the blocking and charging calls

Heck when Coach is out there yelling at the refs the way he was, you know the refs suck

    Re: TT Game Officiating Critique

The officiating in this game was all about getting Texas Tech into the NCAA tournament.

“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.”

"I hope to coach here until I retire," Hoiberg said.
