Nice.....mine has been running and running and running. Makes me wish I had gotten to that backup sump project, but so far, so good.

I had just the opposite problem. Mine never needs to run so a couple of weeks ago I poured some water down there to make it run and it stopped working. The plumber came out and determined that I had some kind of vacuum lock. He drilled a little hole in the pipe and now everything works fine.

    Re: having fun this morning

Ah, I remember lots of fun nights bucketing water in the basement with my parents, desperately trying to keep our sump pump in the game. I believe we eventually found that the original contractor on the house hadn't properly constructed the drainage features around it. Of course this was after they had to replace the basement carpet twice. Good times.

I recommend putting in a backup sump pump. I just put one in last spring and it was well worth the money and has saved me from a ton of stress. It really makes you feel better when you arent home and you know its raining at home.

I don't have any basement problems, but I found out my roof has a leak. Have to go in the attic and then roof to figure that one out.

    Re: having fun this morning

My tile is trickling in water which means the ground is definitely saturated around my house but luckily so far this is only 1 spot in the same area that is seeping in water somewhere too that is just a tiny trail of water going to the drain as well. I'm sure a sump pump would probably keep my basement completely dry but not sure if I want to invest in it when I'm probably already re-doing the basement next summer and likely selling the house in about 3 years. Takes a lot of rain in a short time for it to seep in places just enough to make the carpet wet and I've already modified a few places around the outside of the house that I found was sending water down into a window sill or around the foundation that seems to be helping.
