Seeing Tim Dobbins on MNF-and NU week

For those that were at the game in Lincoln in 2005. Do you remember the hit Tim Dobbins put on the Nebraska QB the play before the fumble in the 4th?
He shot through a gap and destroyed the QB. I remember watching the QB and he was having trouble keeping his mouth piece in. The next play, we get to him and he fumbled. Kept thinking not sure if this goes to OT if he should even be in the game. And on their first possession of OT he threw a pass that should have been picked by Leaders.

The sad thing is the coverage on TV never showed that hit very well.

Anyway lets hope we get that kind of effort out of the defense on Saturday.

I was there and remember the hit well. I really miss having LB'ers like Tim Dobbins and Ace Bowen. Guys that could close the distance on the ball carrier within the blink of an eye and then completely lay the wood.

Re: Seeing Tim Dobbins on MNF-and NU week

All I know about Jesse Smith is that he has a nose for the ball and makes a heck of a lot of tackles. Unfortunately, he doesn't have Tuba Rubin or Brent Curvey or Jason Berryman in front of him to let him roam. Don't get me wrong...Dobbins laid the wood on people like very few in ISU history and that is a huge difference between him and Smith and even Ace. However, sometimes folks forget that what made them great was partially due to the big uglies in front of them.

I can remember listening to Walters on the radio and hearing "Oh man what a hit by Dobbins" literally fifteen times a game. My dad and I would just laugh how often he said it

Tim Dobbins played angry. I liked that.

you can say that again!! that guy went out every game with the intention of lighting people up!! that's the type of difference maker that makes a QB think twice about throwing over the middle; you know there's a guy like that roaming who's going to light up the TE or the wide out coming across. That's some of what our D-fense is lacking.

Tim was great. I also remember Reggie Hayward being a lot of fun to watch.

Re: Seeing Tim Dobbins on MNF-and NU week

I know this has been a lot of talk about the front 7 and lb hard hitters, but is anyone waiting for a big drive changing hit out of Leonard Johnson this year? He's covering AMAZING especially in comparison to Banks who struggles every other week, but he hasn't been going for the FF knockout hit as much.

But yes I miss Dobbins and Bowen a bunch, fun to watch.

I want to see one of our safeties get a clean one on someone. We know LJ can rock, but I want to see Sims or Smith get someone comin over the middle. Hunley had a few good ones last year.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

Re: Seeing Tim Dobbins on MNF-and NU week

Dobbins was knocking people all over the place. If I remember right, he's the one who knocked Brad Smith out of the game. Of course, that played right into Mizzou's hands when Daniels came in. Grrrr.
