I think Amanda Zimmerman will surprise some. I have watched her play for 4 or 5 years and is the real deal.

yeah zim has got a nice solid build she should be able to bang down low, i also think Poppens sounds really athletic and should cause trouble down low

frankly, Zim and Poppens were relatively highly thought of. I don't think them doing well would be a surprise.

On the other hand, I think people are going to be surprised by Schroll because she was under the radar some and from what I understand is highly athletic and before her injury her soph/junior season, was attracting attention from a lot of top programs.

Re: Who will be the biggest surprise this year??

I think it will be between Cole, Poppins and Schroll.

This is a real toss up for me. If I had known that Chassidy Cole didn't have any votes, I would have voted for her. I figured Schroll didn't have any either.

    Here are my reasons:

Cole -- I have yet to be disappointed in the JUCOs Fennelly has brought into the program the last three times. Starting with Ross, they have all been real gems and outstanding for the program. Fennelly saw something in her and that tells me something. Also, he's seems to be really impressed with her progress given that she only got to campus a few days before classes started.

Schroll -- I have a real love for girls from the east. I'm thinking Mary Fox here. I could be wrong, but Schroll injury's, I think, caused not as many programs to look her way. I think she could be a real diamond in the rough. I think she could turn into a really special player, especially if she can play as many positions as has been advertised. I think she could turn into a X-factor player. TPTB know that ISU needs those kind of players.

Poppins -- I've heard nothing but good things about her. I'm excited to see if she is as aggressive as everyone says she is.

But what I'd really like is to see these players stick around for more than one year.

I hope Gen, Anna and Shellie come up big in their senior season. Our attainment of consistency and success really rests on them stepping up to the next level. Freshmen are rarely consistent enough at both ends to be the girders of a really good team.

Unless your some little gem called Alison Lacey. I don't think anyone knew she would be that explosive as a freshman....but she was, and that was fantastic to witness. A reminder: she played in all 35 games and started 21.

And I think last year, when Ashley Arlen was allowed minutes, she showed some real spark, but I don't believe she played the minutes Lacey did when she was a freshman. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Quite frankly, we need the freshmen to step up and get minutes. Even if we gave a lot of minutes to Flo, Gen and Shellie, the freshmen still need to step up b/c those three will be gone in a year. I would love it if those three came alive this year. Gen is very athletic and Flo has shown some spark. Shellie -- I don't have a bad thing to say about Shellie -- it just seems like her playing time has diminished over the course of her career, and I really don't know why -- maybe b/c others have been just a little bit better?

We'll have to see in a week and two days who is playing well.

whitt. could be the x-factor . She could give us 10 pts. or more per game early on. Just because everyone will looking to stop oz and bolte on the outside. Witt will be in the right spot at the right time more often than not.

After going to the game yesterday I would like to change my vote to Schroll. I think the group of newcomers as a whole were very impressive!!

Schroll was a nice surprise yesterday. Poppens was a joy to watch also.

Can't wait until I get to see them in person later in the season.

Re: Who will be the biggest surprise this year??

I was really surprised at how well the newcomers played. They didn't seem the slightest bit hesitant and were very aggressive. In short, none of them acted like freshmen playing their first game.
