DM Marathon delayed by a train

I heard about this from some friends running the 1/2.

But the full marathon winners were held up right near the finish line, how embarrassing for the DM organizers.

there was a nice article in the DMR with picture and copy of email from the train company to the marathon saying it would be no problem to not have the train during the marathon

WithLeather is the best sports gossip site on the net. Well except this one.

Re: DM Marathon delayed by a train

Had tickets to the 1 PM Wicked show at the Civic Center. The finish line for the marathon was right outside the west doors of the Civic Center. They had barricades up along the marathon route, so you couldn't cross the street from the west to get to the Civic Center. A regular cluster if you ask me.

There's a Broadway show going on at the Civic Center and some db chooses to end the marathon right beside it? How many streets and intersections in Des Moines - yet, these two activities, attracting a large number of people are placed 30 feet apart? What the heck? I refuse to call these people 'organizers' because they clearly do not deserve that title.

They have had the same finish line for the 5-6?? DSM Marathons, and the dates are scheduled well in advanced . So in my book it was the Broadway show's scheduling snafu and they are the DBs - or more likely you are the true one.

Hint the 2010 DSM Marathon is Sunday, October 17. As a DB you may want to avoid downtown from 7-3ish that day.

These people have run 26 miles, and you cannot walk an extra block?

Besides, you cannot just move the finish line without re certifying the entire course since DM is a Boston qualifier.

The civic center has known for years of the date and where the end was, it is their problem they scheduled an event at the same time.

Shouldn't have been too hard to cross the street 5 hours into the marathon......most would have been done by 1 PM.....just had to walk to the end of the block to get around the baracade.
