    Windows 7

So who is upgrading today to 7? I have 2 machines that I'll probably move from Vista to 7 this weekend.

    Please no Apple talk.

    Re: Windows 7

I'm building a new machine for home right now so that will definitely have 7 on it. And I've been meaning to upgrade my work PC for awhile but just haven't gotten around to it.

Maybe this will be the event (Windows 7) that I use to talk my wife into letting me buy a computer? Wait...who am I kidding...not going to happen...

    Re: Windows 7

Still have a PC at home, likely won't upgrade because the thing is from 2001 and likely would not handle it well.

I have not followed Windows 7 much - what are some of the bigger areas for improvement?

Seems this is the week for great releases, Adobe just put up the first public beta of Lightroom 3.0 last night.

    Re: Windows 7

I'll probably just use the RC til that expires. Probably put the new Ubuntu on my laptop next week though.

I read this last night...short article but points out some of the highlights and minor flaws (writers opinion).

    Re: Windows 7

We have been in the process of updating a laptop here at work and have ran into multiple issues. I work for a software company and we're a microsoft partner so we got our hands on 7 pretty early. We're on our 6th attempt to update and still no luck. It's looking like we'll need to wipe the laptop clean and start from scratch.

Just a heads up. Not saying this will happen to everybody but it certainly has been a pain.

    Re: Windows 7

I have been using it at work for a long time now and its a must upgrade especially for vista users. Its fast, clean, and minimal bugs. I have to say this is exciting me about the same as XP did when it came out. Great OS. The RSAT tools for administration are flawless so far so cant complain there. I plan on rolling 7 out a few at a time to my users since its compatible with all of the apps we use.

    7 RC -> 7?

I don't think that was an "official" upgrade path.

    Re: Windows 7

We have two PC's at home, one an old dinosaur that would never handle Windows 7, and the other a 18-month-old Vista machine. Some reviews say it's worth upgrading from Vista, some say it's not, so I'm not sure an upgrade is going to happen.

However, with Windows 7 finally out, now I can start looking at the badly needed replacement for our old machine. All I have to do is sneak that purchase request past the household finance committee.

    Re: Windows 7

I'm upgrading, as soon as I get my copy from Amazon.

I've gone back and forth as to whether to do a clean install or lay it on top of Vista, and I think I've decided on clean install, so I have some backing up to do first.

I upgraded my work XP machine last week to 7. You can't do a straight upgrade, unfortunately, but MS provides an easy transfer tool to assist with upgrading computers that need a fresh install. It took about a day to get 7 on and then reinstall all of my apps. The tool worked great! It put everything back where I had it and then provided me a report of the programs I needed to reinstall.
