    What if....

This is going to sound crazy but what if?

What if the following teams end up undefeated:

    Texas
    Florida/Alabama
    Iowa
    Cincinnati
    Boise St.

Who goes to the Championship game? Would we see and Iowa vs. Cincy Rose Bowl and Texas vs. Florida/Alabama winner?

If this were to happen, I think the BCS would be done. I would actually like to see this. Saturday is going to be interesting for all these reasons.

    Re: What if....

This question comes up about every year at this time and by the end of the season, it always gets narrowed down.

There have been a number of scenarios that I felt would end the BCS, some that actually played out (3 unbeaten teams, multiple one-loss teams) and it's still here.

Every year I sit back and enjoy the cluster ****. Then I enjoy people ripping on the BCS left and right. Then I really enjoy the BCS honks saying how great it is. By then, it's preseason for the next year....and repeat.

    Re: What if....

Iowa just looks so out of place with those teams. I guarantee they lose at least two games before the season is over (MSU this weekend and at Ohio State).

If Iowa gets to the Rose bowl and "heaven help us" they win. I will cry every day for a year.

I think Iowa could hang with all those teams except for Alabama. I just think Iowa is a team that could play with anyone, but they could lose to anyone too. They just are not explosive enough offensively to finish off opponents.

Unless USC loses another game, they will go to the rose bowl over cincinnati. They usually like to have a pac-10 big 10 matchup

Regardless if USC loses the Pac 10 champion will face off against the Big 10 champion in the Rose Bowl unless that champion is picked to play in the NC game.

An undefeated Iowa-Cincinnati game is impossible unless it's for all the marbles or USC gets picked ahead of Iowa to go to the NC game.

Here's the funny thing. A 1 loss USC has a very good chance to pass Iowa but a 1 loss Oregon team has no chance even though they have a much, much better loss. All because they can't put Oregon ahead of Boise St.

Exactly. Their game plan seems to be to use defense to keep them in the game. Their offense is good enough that eventually, they are going to put points on the board, they just need to finish with more than their opponent.

As I said in another thread. Everyone was saying the same thing about tOSU when they played Miami for the championship. "No way can tOSU hang with Miami." Well, they hung and ended up winning the game. I don't put anything past any team, given the time to prepare for their opponent, especially the extra couple of weeks the Big 10 gets, and especially given that Iowa has looked pretty good in their bowl games the last couple of years against supposed unbeatable opponents.

Right now, I feel the major difference between us and Iowa is their Defense. Granted, it's a major part of football, but if you able to create pressure up front, no matter how good the opponent, it gives you a shot.

Yes they do. Even though USC fans would like a change of scenery every now and then and go to a Fiesta Bowl. I think those fans would like the chance to travel at some point while almost every other team in the country would love to play in the Rose Bowl.

    Re: What if....

Who's Iowa's best win come against? PSU? They are vastly overrated. Iowa has done great this year. Quality wins, but in my opinion they would struggle with most of the top 10 teams.

IIRC, Iowa has more wins that anyone else over ranked teams. This team does not look dominating/flashy - but they win. Teams predicated on defense often don't win many cute points - but they win.

It'll be Texas v. Florida/Bama if they all win out. Winner of SEC title game will play Texas. No doubt. Beyond that, who knows.

Most top teams would struggle against each other for gosh sake. Iowa's strength of schedule is ranked 9. You can continue to discount the schedule, ranking system etc ad nauseum in an effort to diminish what Iowa has done but let's face the facts. We ARE a top 10 team and the only team in the state that can muster a top 10 ranking. I'd say MOST top 10 teams would struggle against Iowa and THAT is why we are where we are at.
