Was Wally Burnham DC at South Florida?

How did we get him here? Does it prove that Leavitt is crazy?

I think Danny Mac may have put a good word in for us. Others have said that Leavitt makes his coaches work crazy long hours. I also heard Wally wanted to test his coaching ability against Big 12 offenses.
I'm sure it might be a mixture of all 3.

He wanted an opportunity to coach with Shane before he retired

probably also helped that we brought his son along...might be some type of agreement in place for him to take over

Not sure if this is true or not but I've heard it had something to do with his son taking over for him at ISU after he's done.

Unless Ash takes off before Wally decides to hang up the laces, I'd say the position is his for the taking.

That said, I don't think Coach Ash will stick around until Wally retires, he was already getting looked at for DC positions last year

    Forgot about that one.
Yeah, I believe that is correct.

Rhoads and him surely had a mutual respect coaching against each other in the Big East for many years as well.

Bluntly....we used his son to get him here. I, for one, am glad we did.

Re: Was Wally Burnham DC at South Florida?

There is no deal for his son to take over as DC. When we hired Wally, Shane also got a pretty big promotion to position coach at a Big 12 school that will help his career. I would bet Ash is the most likely future DC on the staff when Wally hangs em up.

Yeah, there's no deal for Shane to be the DC or anything.

Re: Was Wally Burnham DC at South Florida?

I agree...the deal was for them to coach together...not for Shane to eventually take over.

It's worked out well for all :)

Regardless of the circumstances on his decision to come, I'm glad he's here. How many years do you all think he'll continue coaching?
