Timeouts at the end of the game

what was the deal with baylor calling 2 timeouts in the last 40 secs or so of the game? was the coach just trying to be a jerk or something?

Re: Timeouts at the end of the game

Doubtful. More or less a coach just working on a 2 minute drive with a new QB in the game. We pretty much did the same thing last year when we scored our only TD against them. Nothing wrong with playing until the final :00 hits.

There were some people around me that were griping about it because they were cold and wanted to leave.

IMO - he was coaching his team to the end like he should. Like I would expect our coach to do.

I was a little surprised they didn't go for 2 and then onside kick it...

I thought it was Bush League, too. You can practice your 2 minute drills back in Waco when you get home. Trying to pump up the stats on a meaningless drive is lame.

I was hoping we'd call a timeout after our kneel down when we got the ball back to show displeasure with the move.

There isn't a substitute for getting some practice against another team. I was really surprised they didn't try the onside kick.

That might have been me. I really thought it was time to lose with some dignity and go home. Well, lose for Baylor, not for us.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

They worked for a score at least. Then the band started chanting,"It just doesn't matter..."

    This.

A good HC always is coaching his team, regardless of score/weather.

    Didn't like it? Leave early.

Re: Timeouts at the end of the game

To be honest, I thought it was lame. Practice happens during practice. Don't risk injuring your own or the other team's players during the inconsequential minutes just because your players could use some "practice." If it were us that was losing, I'd expect us to run the ball until the other team's defense stopped us or time ran out. Certainly I would not expect us to use timeouts to lengthen the game at that point. Perhaps Chizik do that last year at Baylor, but that just proves to me what a dick he was. I would liken good sportsmanship to basketball players dribbling the ball out in the closing seconds or just chucking up a random shot to end the game.

I had no problem with it. I did have a problem with our defense giving up such an easy score

I would be more concerned with players getting injured during time which didn't matter. If players get injured late in the game during junk-time because you decide you as a coach need to coach regardless of score/weather you should absolutely be fired. Why do some people think coaching has nothing to do with showing class anymore?

Re: Timeouts at the end of the game

Maybe the best solution would have been to play some decent defense, and get them off the field. I didn't care about the timeouts. I was ****** that our D let them go all the way down field.
