Why no Late Night or Midnight Madness at ISU?

Seems like tons of schools are having a gala opening of basketball practice for their mens and womens teams tonight. Not just UNC, KU, Duke, and Michigan State either. Heck, even North Dakota State is having one that ESPN is covering.
It would be a nice event for our fan base if we'd have one too. Wonder why it's so low-key here...

I'm too busy checking out Cyclone Fanatic to bother. Until Hilton gets wi-fi, count me out.

Re: Why no Late Night or Midnight Madness at ISU?

Our Cyclone Shootout we used to have really, really went downhill after Floyd left IMO...I remember them shutting the lights off in Hilton with one spotlight on our Big Eight Tournament Trophy sitting at center court going into Dedric's Senior Year and playing the final six seconds of the Big Eight Championship against Kansas on the loudspeakers. The place just went NUTS...afterwards they announced our players, announcing Floyd last as they carried him out on a throne like a king, while he tossed logo's of the other Big 12 teams out into the crowd, then stood up and chucked the Hawkeye and Jayhawk logo's. There was also a dunk and 3point contest.

We haven't had anything close to that since despite some pretty good teams, and as soon as we have success again (starting this year) I would love to bring something like that back!

Re: Why no Late Night or Midnight Madness at ISU?

We used to do it every year and then it just kind of lost its appeal. Crowds got smaller and smaller. The last couple years they combined the women and the men if I remember correctly.

I didn't really like them to be honest.

The season Floyd came out was pretty awesome. I would love to see something like that again, but I think we need to have to positive momentum first....so next year may be a good year for one again!

If we win 20 this year, we should bring it back....it is time....it is time to get the momentum....we have been down for years....but we will be back....go midnight madness....maybe they could hand out free coupons for small pizza for showing up or something...

Not to come across wrong - biggest ISU MBB fan here - but we have no reason to have midnight madness at this point. Without any reasonable level of success the past half-decade, you'd be lucky to get more than a couple hundred fans in the arena for something like this. I'd be in the front row, but it really only works for those elite powerhouse programs.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Agree with that...if we're an NCAA tourney team this year, why not next year though? Any idea what Coach Mac's views are on events like this?

The last few that we had, even with solid teams didn't amount to squat. If your going to do it, go all out IMO.

Also, I'm a big women's basketball supporter, but I think they should either have their own separate scrimmage open to the public, or be involved less than they were in previous Cyclone shootouts we had. Just my opinion.

Actually, I was thinking as much (or more) about Fennelly's program. I would think a team with the nation's third-highest attendance would draw at least a few thousand to an event like this - especially during homecoming weekend.
