Garland (TX) HS game tonight (Jared Barnett)

I will be attending Jared's game tonight and will give a short summary in the morning of the game and how he plays.

There are also some other good athletes that will be fun to watch...2 of Jared's teammates are 4 star verbals to Texas (DT and a LB) as well as a couple more guys verbaled within the Big 12 and a couple guys from visiting Rowlett HS who are also verbaled within the Big 12.

Re: Garland (TX) HS game tonight (Jared Barnett)

The game was on TV locally. He looks pretty good. Quick release, good accuracy in the intermediate passing game. They didn't go deep a lot so it's tough to judge his arm strength but his decision making was good. You didn't see him throwing into coverage much. Garland's offense is similar to ours so it should be a good transition for him. It's easy to see why Herman and the staff think he's going to be a good one. Someone a few months ago said he could be our Chase Daniel and I would agree with that.

Tiller and Barnett will have a great QB battle in 2011 IMO. He's in pretty good physical condition for a high school QB, too. He didn't run much but is quick on his feet and can throw on the run.

I am excited about this kid. there was talk in another thread that Herman might have another guy in mind at QB in this class that could compete NEXT year for a starting spot. I don't know how much truth there is to that, but if it is the case it will be interesting.

I would think that Herman's offense would be a great draw for skill position recruits, particularly at QB and WR.

This kid looks good, but we seem to always go after the "dual-threat" type kids. I would rather have a QB like Reesing. A guy that can avoid sacks/contact in the pocket, can run when he needs to, but the main strength is his throwing accuracy. That being said, Barnett looks good. Peace out y'all.

    Enjoy.

Re: Garland (TX) HS game tonight (Jared Barnett)

I think Reesing defines "dual threat". He has obviously grown into a primary passer now, but his scrambling ability and footwork is what keeps the defenses honest.

Barnett appears to have all the passing intagibles you want. (from the videos I have watched anyway) Intermediate passing is the key to a spread offense and if he is having success with this now, I'm excited to see how he progresses.

Reesing was listed as a dual-threat QB out of high school. What surprises me is so was Ricky Stanzi, both of which were ranked below Arnuad.

Re: Garland (TX) HS game tonight (Jared Barnett)

Drive4cy was pretty accurate in his assessment. did not know the game was on tv until we got there. high school tv timeouts are horrible.

jared has a quick release when he decides to throw it. once or twice he held on longer than he shouldve and ended up getting sacked. he seemed to have a good pocket presence, just had no line to help him out at times.

when he puts the ball in the air it is accurate or in a spot that only his man can get it. i think i saw one ball thrown behind his reciever all night....it was still catchable. his final stats were 19 or 28 for 194 yards, no tds and no ints. of those 9 incompletions i would say 4 or 5 were drops that were right on the money. and the 194 kind of snuck up on me, i didnt think he was getting that close.

they throw a lot of WR screens and jared is good at getting the ball to the sideline with velocity to avoid the corner coming to get it.

he also scrambled once late in the game for a first down to seal the deal. put a nice head fake on the defender and rumbled for about 15+ yards.

the drive that stands out was the td drive right before halftime, garland got the ball at about the 30 with 3 +/- minutes to go and barnett led them down the field in 4 quick passes. the td was a rush out of the wildcat. they ran the wildcat probably 10 times and jared was on the sideline for this.

overall, the offense garland is running is very close to what we are doing and jared seems like a scrambler that will pass first. and with some weapons and a line to block he will be able to make the decisions to lead ISU to some wins.

I would add running back to that list. If ARob can continue his success this year, that should draw some to us.

We are now leading the nation in avoiding sacks since we have a fullback for a qb.
