No. 13 Iowa State Sweeps No. 22 Texas A&M

AMES, Iowa – Rachel Hockaday had 15 kills and Victoria Henson added 12 as 13th-ranked Iowa State held on to sweep No. 22 Texas A&M, 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 26-24), Wednesday night at Hilton Coliseum. The win is Iowa State’s sixth-straight and improves the Cyclones to 15-3, 7-2 in the Big 12 heading into their first bye of the conference season.

"I think this built a lot of confidence for our players,” Iowa State head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said. “We played a great team tonight and we played well for the most part. Once you do that, when you head into the next game you can remember that and you'll know you can come through again. It's hard to practice for that. Every time you can pull through, you gain confidence."

Kelsey Petersen, who finished with nine kills, also had a good night for the Cyclones, notching a career-best .467 hitting percentage.

It was an awesome match. The team was on fire, the crowd was loud, and the overall experience was simply awesome. Close wins like this prove that Hilton Magic isn't just basketball.

Agreed - the crowd wasn't huge by any stretch - but most likely the largest of the season. Those who were there were amped up. Was hoping for some more students - free admission and decent evening and all. Those who did show up made their presence known.

It was great to see the ladies overcome some errors and the tightening pressure at the end of sets, and pull out the win. They've been prone to losing sets in such circumstances against the better teams.

A&M was a good ball club. I don't know if they are the luckiest team around - but they rarely had an offensive set without a hitter available to take a good swing. Their setter could really dish the ball, is probably why. The return visit in Nov could be telling.

What makes this even more significant is that A&M had beaten Baylor at Baylor, where ISU was swept.

And took down Nebraska - that's never any small feat.

Re: No. 13 Iowa State Sweeps No. 22 Texas A&M

I think A&M is underrated. Big 12 should be well represented in the tourney this year. Was happy to see ISU win at OU. Even though OU is not rated, we lost there last year, and road wins are tough. I thought the RPIs were a little off kilter.
