    Normandy highlights

Just some general info on the sights I've seen in the last couple of days.

Arrowmanche-Cool little ocean side own where there are still artificial harbors set up by the military.

Sainte Mère Eglise-Church from the movie the longest day where John Steele hung from

    Angoville-au-Plain

"A fantastic stop at the church where two 501st medics, Robert Wright and Kenneth Moore tended 80 wounded combatants. The church changed hands several times in the fighting, and Colonel Sink later set up his CP nearby. We also see the fine memorial and the magnificent stained glass windows that honor the combatants who fought in this small village"

There is still blood on the seats in the church that is still used today

    Pointe du Hoc

The infamous German gun position that threatened the Allied ships off Utah and Omaha . Attacked by the elite 2nd U.S. Rangers , under the command of LTC James Earl Rudder who had to scale the cliffs to get there. The moon like bomb craters and ruined fortifications and bunkers

    Re: Normandy highlights

Colleville U.S. Cemetery-Saw a vet lowering the flag at the end of the day. Very moving. The tops of the trees are cut off to symbolize the early loss of life. Over 9,300 U.S. troops here. The U.S. familes had the option to bring the bodies back to the U.S. and 2/3rd did bring them back. The U.K. soldiers didn't have that option. I wish I would have had the time to see the German grave sites.

    Re: Normandy highlights

I have over 100 pictures but thought I would put up a few. Also went to Mont Saint-Michel

The people of Normandy are excellent. Similar to small town Iowa. Also the highway system is unbelievable and the speed is set at 81mph. Also the roundabouts are confusing but make a lot of sense. I'm driving a small diesel Renault.

I'm jealous. That's one of the top things on my list of places to see. Just being there must leave you in awe of the sacrifices and history that took place there.

Utah Beach-This was the least exciting of the U.S. beaches for me.

    Re: Normandy highlights

This was taken from a flip so the quality isn't very good but this gives you an idea how narrow the 2 way roads are. Also towards the end of the video you'll see the hedge rows that the allied forces had so much trouble getting through.
