Thumbs up Rhoads not into Moral Victories

Too bad some of our fans can't accept this and move on like our coach does: FOOTBALL: Cyclones looking to second half of season

Q: How do you feel about moral victories?

PR: It just doesn’t exist. There’s growth and there’s improvement, that’s what we’re doing right now. We still lost two straight football games. We’d love nothing more than to be 5–1 right now, and we’re plays away from being that. That’s what losers say. That’s what the team that’s 3–3 says as opposed to the other. Our goal is, and our expectations are, to continue to improve as a football team, and we are doing that. We’re pleased with that. We’re not pleased with losing.”
Let's take the lead from our coach and quit playing the "what if's."

    Good deal.

Last I checked, moral victories are pretty much always found in the "L" column.

Moral victories are for losers IMO.

Either you won or you lost.

No doubt about it ... er, I mean YEAH, I like that he doesn't sugar coat things, but he doesn't throw anyone under the bus, either. Seems like a class act, which is the impression I had after talking to him at the Quad City Cyclone outing this spring.

Re: Rhoads not into Moral Victories

Is there a thread about what Deace said? I assume that is why the question was asked.

I happen to agree with what Deace said. Players and coaches cannot accept moral victories.

I also agreed when he said ISU fans were the exact opposite of Iowa fans. Paraphrasing he basically said Iowa fans start thinking NC after 5 wins and ISU fans are happy when they only lose by 5 to a team like Kansas.

Fans can have a moral victory...no problem. The moral victory of a close loss to KU is better than losing by 20 points. A blowout would have affected attendance for Baylor.

I'm still not a fan of that mentality. True fans show up win or lose. If you lose by 1 or lose by 40 it's still just 1 L in the W/L collumn and there is no tally for "close wins/losses"

That's not the way a lot of people feel though. No one is saying they are a fan of that mentality, but it exists and that's the way it is.

I can tell you that I wasn't happy losing by 5 to Kansas. I was ****** off the rest of that weekend that we didn't win that game.

Fans have moral victories all the time. I would definately consider UNI/
Iowa a moral victory for UNI but I highly doubt you saw any UNI players or coaches talking about moral victories.

It's the players and coaches that can't be happy with only losing by five on the road to a ranked team. As Herm Edwards would say, "you play to win the game!" You don't play to keep it close.
