    H1N1 is way overblown

I know several people who have this and it looks like it's just the normal everyday flu.
Drug company's must be making a fortune off this.
The media has taken this to a new level. Why is this flu so overblown compared to the normal everyday flu? It's crazy. More people are dying from the normal flu than the H1N1.
I am just sick of hearing about it. It's the top story everyday on the local news. Why?

    Re: H1N1 is way overblown

Well, I agree it's overblown in terms of H1N1. But the flu in general is a big issue right now. We are saying high % of students missing school because of being diagnosed with the flu. Lots of schools have seen 20-30% of their population out of school and it's not even "flu season".

People were begging for a vaccine last spring. We didn't know how it was going to play out.

I wish I would have known it was overblown when I was lurching over the toilet the last two days.

Hilarious read on H1N1 by Maddox...who is often offensive but very funny in my opinion:

    Re: H1N1 is way overblown

It's still a big deal. I know someone in the hospital in bad shape that has H1N1. Up where I live there are several cases of it. Overblown? Probably. I just got over the regular flu.

It was either New Hampshire or New Jersey where they made it mandatory for EVERYONE to get a shot. I never get the flu shot and probably wont.

Read that link I posted earlier...the diagrams depicting the difference in the symptoms of each flu is a riot!

    Re: H1N1 is way overblown

It's only worse in that a different group of people are more suseptable to it.

Odd that it really hits people who are generally more resistant to illness, who would be considered to have stronger immune systems.

Thusfar, it's really proving to be no worse than the normal flu. I'm not going to bother getting the new vaccine, just my yearly flu shot.

If you have a little one, are pregnant or have respitory ailments - I wouldn't hesitate to get the new vaccine. I'm none (aside from asthma) and not really worried about it. Do have concerns about my nieces and nephews - particularly the one year old and the 6 year old who has a host of other health issues, as well as my dad who has been having numerous health worries over the past year.

Although the symptoms are similar, the big difference is that H1N1 is poised to be able to be spread at a much rapid rate. Since seasonal flu has been around before, there is "herd immunity" that suppresses its transmission. There isn't this for H1N1.

That's why there is concern. I'll be fine if it turns out to not be as serious as predicted, but I'll still get the shot.

This couldn't have possibly warranted another thread, could it? How many H1N1 threads talking about this have we had so far?

Statistically the death rate is higher with H1N1. Yet it is worse.
