    Saturday Tailgate

Is anyone thinking about bringing a fire pit this weekend to stay warm or is that a no-no. don't point me to old posts b/c some say you can and others say you can't. we might just go with a propane heater anyway.

You need ideas, really? How old are you?

    If you insist:
Mittens or gloves. They'll help keep your fingers warm when holding those cups, cans, bottles, etc. of warm liquid.

Old enough to be able to handle a joke, dang. Sorry for trying to lighten the mood. Back to serious face.

You can't have a fire pit, but bring an old weber grill add wood and say you are grilling. Same heat just looks as if you are cooking.

Sorry. I meant to say, "Wear your winter coat, son. This is Iowa, you know." Did that really seem like a serious answer? Well, it was, as far as it went. Just no open fires, okay?

    Re: Saturday Tailgate

I always bring a fire-pit to the cold games. Instead of wood I use charcoal. Works better than most of the propane heaters I've seen and safer than a wood fire. Keeps us warm and is great for making s'mores.

I think the key loophole is the phrase "open fire". keep the screen handy to keep the sparks from flying and you should be OK.

Last year at the Missouri game I got lucky and was the one to keep the fire going for halftime tailgaters. The charcoal ran out and I had some wood in the truck. I threw it on the fire. When security came by all they asked me to do was put the screen on over the fire.

    Re: Saturday Tailgate

Brought a fire pit for every cold game last year, had it right behind the truck in C4 and had many security personnel walk by with no issues... Ours also has a shelf around the edge so we used that to keep things warm. Make sure it has a top to it though.

    Re: Saturday Tailgate

We use construction heaters for our tailgate. Not the torpedo style, but rather the upright cylindrical style. We also have a radiant heater that we use.

Typically we will set these up inside a tent that has 2-3 sides on it. It is warm enough that when in the tents, no jacket is needed.

    Hope this helps.

This! I even do this at home on my front patio since you can't have any sort of fire pit in Des Moines. When we have people over in early spring or late fall when it's nice enough to be outside but there's still a chill in the air when the moon comes out we drag out the old reliable Weber, load her up w/some charcoal and small twigs, and sit around it all night.
