Anyone ever fought a speeding ticket and won?

If so how? I just got one and I dont want it to go on my record and make my insurance rates go up.

I actually fought one 15 years ago I didnt think i had any shot of losing since the guy that owned a house right next to where the cop was radaring from saw the entire thing and agreed to come as witness the cop was full of crap. Basically he gave me a speeding ticket cause I had a sports car and picked me out of line. I was actually sandwiched inbetween cars in left lane and he pulled me over. The cop had like 10 people fighting his tickets that day so that should have gave the judge a clue but I still lost. Afterwards the cop and I guy into outside the court house cause I called him a ******* Liar.

My understanding, if they show up to court and you don't have a rock solid case with a lot of proof, it's always going to be their word over yours.

I'm not a Lawyer and I don't even play one on TV, but there are things in the law to protect you, you just need to sift through and find out what is truth and what is urban legend. Pretty much nowadays, if you were speeding, you've got little chance of getting off. If you really weren't speeding, I'd say give it a shot. If you were speeding and just looking for a loophole, my only advice is to stop speeding.

Do they do the traffic school thing in Iowa like they do in Illinois. If you get a ticket, you admit fault and take the class online and whammo, erased off your record. You can do this up to 3 times I believe. You should look into something like that.

re: Anyone ever fought a speeding ticket and won?

The easiest way to win a case vs. a speeding ticket is if the cop doesn't show up. The other thing is that there are a TON of loopholes in the system IF you know them. Supposedly a buddy of mine had fought and won like 3 or 4 of them because of various reasons... such as the radar gun hadn't been calibrated in a recent enough amount of time, etc.

re: Anyone ever fought a speeding ticket and won?

I don't know, I've never faught one, nor have I fought one. I've also never tried to guy myself and a cop outside of a courthouse. I prefer to leave guying for utility poles, it would be too inconvenient for me to be held to one spot by a cable.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. As far as if I've ever tried to fight a speeding ticket: no. I think you'd need to have some really good evidence on your side to prove that you weren't speeding. Even if he did pick you out of a line you probably still were exceeding the speed limit. It sucks for you that the cop chose to get you and none of the other guys though.

re: Anyone ever fought a speeding ticket and won?

Yep... just a couple of weeks ago. I got a little lucky. He wrote down the wrong location of me speeding. I just turned on this road and he was sitting 1 block down. He wrote down the intersection that I was turning as the location of speeding. I was able to convince the judge that my car was incapable of stopping and then turning the corner at 45 mph so they threw it out.

I had a couple of other options. I should of taken a lot of pictures. I asked the cop to draw a diagram of the intersection and where the speed limit signs were. He drew it and it was wrong but I didn't have any pictures to prove it.

Try to catch him up in a lie and prove it and then his credibility is shot.

Also make sure everything on the ticket is filled out properly. Make sure your driver license / plate / year make model / location / everything is correct. Anything that is wrong might just get it thrown out.

Can someone decipher original post please? Yikes..

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

If you have a witness, it'll help. I got a 17 over reduced to a 10 over because we settled outside of court.

Re: Anyone ever fought a speeding ticket and won?

Lawyers specialize in this. They go to court and plead it down. I pled guilty to 12 improper parking violations in order to make one speeding ticket go away - oh yeah, almost forgot, the lawyer's fee was $500 on top of the fines. All it takes is money.
