Why no instant replays for foul balls?

I think it would be one of the quickest replays in all of sports. Its either fair or foul right?
When the playoffs are on they have extra outfield Line umpires.
How is this umpire not getting paid? I mean he is on the line 10 feet away from the play looking at the ball and it hits the left fielder's glove and still bounces 1 foot fair. You can see the umps eyes staring right at the play. There is calls that are hard to call and I can see that (tags, pitches etc... But foul balls from 10 feet away..Come on)
No wonder people hate the Yankees and their stupid a** payroll.
take a look at this play. Sorry if this has already been discussed.

Obviously fair, maybe they should use the system tennis uses to determine if balls were in or out.

I don't think there is a good way of doing this, I mean if the ball is ruled foul it's a redo anyway, and even if it was actually fair how do you determine what to award the hitter.

Unfortunately for the Twins it goes both ways. If he would have came back and hit a homer the ******* yankees would be ******** that it's not fair.

I hear ya. You would almost have to award them a single, unless it went over the fence in this case.

Which would have been better than what happened, but not as good as what could have if the ball had rattled around in the corner and he pulled out a double. But on something like that that leaves nothing to subjectivity it'd be nice to see it handled better than it is.

I was somewhat excited about the MLB Playoffs, but after watching that TERRIBLE call, I'm done watching MLB.

I didn't even notice the ball went into the stands on that play, makes it a lot easier to decide what should have been done if they had replay.

Its easy. If its close, train you're umpires to call it fair. You can always go back and review it later on.

Re: Why no instant replays for foul balls?

I kind of thought the umpire would have had an easier time if he had been about 10 yards further away. But, like others have said, if the ball hadn't bounced into the stands, how would you know how many bases to award.

In that case, it's pretty obvious since the ball went into the stands - automatic double. Twins got jobbed there, no doubt about it.

The umpiring in the playoffs this year has been terrible, but that call ranks right up there with Richie Garcia, Doug Eddings, and Don Denkinger's blown calls.

Re: Why no instant replays for foul balls?

Who remembers Ryne Sandbergs Home Run that was taken away when it was called foul? Popeye (Zimmer) got tossed in a fit of rage. Ryno almost did. But replay on something like that would be cool.
