I wouldn't say that they don't deserve to be 1-A. But I wouldn't say size and strength either. They are more characterized with solid consistent defenses that tend to give up huge chunks of yards on stupid plays.

Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska play pretty good defense. Those three can defend as good as any Big 10 team.

    Re: conference reputation

The Big Ten still puts a ton of players in the NFL. Just as many as the big 12 last year with one less team. Actually, the PAC 10 puts more players in per team than any other conference. I would say that over the years that conference have equalized as far as NFL talent. I would say the Big Ten puts in a lot of lineman and linebackers while other conferences put in skill players and speed. The Big 10 does have some speed in the NFL but they are behind the SEC and probably the Big 12 in that area.

The MWC isn't better than the Big East. Utah beat Pitt in 2004 and they've never lived it down. The worst team in the Big East (Syracuse/Lville) could beat about 1/2 the MWC. MWC is top heavy and bottom terrible. I'll take an all around solid conference.

Big 10 = lack of overall team speed...a slow and plodding conference.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

While I underrated the Big East Conference earlier this year, I'm not ready to label them an awesome conference yet, either. Outside of Cincinnati, South Florida, and maybe Pittsburgh, I think the rest of the conference has a lot to prove - especially West Virginia, a team that lost to what I consider a highly overrated and definitely overhyped Auburn team and struggled to put away a very bad Colorado team. I'm also not sold on Rutgers' 4-1 record - 2 of their wins are against FCS opponents (Howard and Texas Southern) and the other two are against some of the worst in FBS (Florida Int'l and Maryland). Same with UConn and their 3-2 record - their wins aren't exactly impressive (Ohio, Baylor, and Rhode Island), and they have a loss to an extremely overrated North Carolina team.

So, while they're better than I gave them credit for, I'm not exactly sold on them yet, either (although Cinci may just be the best team in Ohio).

I think what he meant was "as a whole." Of course the Big 10 has some players that are fast, but overall as a conference they don't focus on speed as much as strength/power.

Me neither. I'm just saying that the idea that MWC is a better overall conference is ridiculous. Top to bottom the Big East is a solid conference and statistics back this up. On par w/the Big 10 and Pac 10 and ahead of the MWC.

I agree with the bolded part. I seem them as a sleeping giant. Ohio is waaaay too big of a state to just have one BCS school. If Cincy can maintain success and give Kelly the $ he's going to want, they could start to somewhat rival tOSU. I would LOVE to see that game turn into a year in-year out rivalry.

Ya, I think sometimes that speed thing is blown a little out of proportion. I know it was 3 years ago but Michigan's receivers made Florida look slow when they played in the Capital 1 bowl. I think more has to do with the style of play than physical play when it comes to the Big Ten. I think OSU, Michigan, and Illinois all have speed similar to the SEC and definitely close to the Big 12. It is a matter of knowing how to use it and no team in the Big 10 really knows how to use it with the exception of maybe RichRod.
