Playing baseball in below freezing temperatures

It's currently 29 degrees in Denver and it won't get any warmer as the night progresses.

Awesome job out of MLB to schedule this game at 8 PM local on a Sunday night. I mean, who would think it would be cold in Denver this time of year?

No reason this isn't a day game... But, they wanted to give the Sox every chance to win so they made the west coast team play early...

Glad it didn't work out for Boston. I now hate them as much as I do NYY.

The Sox could be playing right now, and the Rocks and Phils could have played the early afternoon game. That series is getting the lowest ratings out of all of them anyway, so why not play that game early?

MLB had to know when this series started that weather was going to be an issue in Denver. To start this game at 8 PM local on a Sunday night is beyond stupid.

These games are at night to compete with as few NFL games as possible. The order of the games are due to the time zones. Now, I'm not sure why the Boston game was earlier, and not at 3. Maybe they didn't want the Sox to play at the same time as the Pats.

I'm gonna guess that the LAD/STL game was scheduled for that slot

Re: Playing baseball in below freezing temperatures

There were 4 slots for today. 12, 3:30, 7, and 10. LAA/BOS was 12, LAD/STL was 3:30, NYY/MIN was 7, PHI/COL 10. Goes with the time zones. is this so hard to understand?

Re: Playing baseball in below freezing temperatures

Well, this is a make up game, so I'm guessing it proabably wasn't supposed to be at this time. And maybe it would have been earlier, but maybe Denver didn't want this game at the same time as the broncos game, as that could be a big conflict.

Re: Playing baseball in below freezing temperatures

This is ridiculous that the World Series will end up going into November, possibly as late as November 5th, or even later if there are weather delays.

IMO, it does not allow teams to perform at their best, plus there is possibly a greater likelihood of injury.

MLB either needs to knock a few games off the schedule, or schedule some day-night double-headers during the season so the post-season schedule is earlier. It's all about the money right now, but there is a way to do it where the owners won't lose any money during the season. Who wants to sit outside at night watching a baseball game in NY, Minnesota, Denver, Chicago, Boston, or any place else in the North, in the first or second week of November? It's asinine.

    1) Minnesota's in a dome

    2) if their team's in the WS, I doubt people will really care what the **** the temperature is.

Put them on TNT, or have them play the early game. I get that maybe MLB didn't want these games going up against the Vikings, Pats, and Broncos, but the start times since TBS started doing the playoffs have been ridiculous. Last year the Cubs two games at home started a 8 and 5, this year the Dodgers had their first two games start at 7 and 3. Tonight the Rockies play a game that starts at 10 Eastern.

It just doesn't make any sense to me that MLB would put the series that is getting the lowest ratings - but is the most competetive so far - on at a time when it's virtually guaranteed that no one is going to watch.
