oh, and Utah too. How did Snyder build a program at Kstate? 4 cupcakes early to start the year 4-0.

How about we try to build a program to the point where Iowa is a cupcake?

I'll give you a hint. The first word in your signature has nothing to do with it.

Re: We need to remove Iowa from schedule

Yep, the going is tough, let's take the easy way out so we get wiped in conference. Like it or not, Iowa is a good test for our offense each year.

When people realize Iowa State will never be a 10-11 wins per year program, but more realistically a 5-7 wins per year program with the occasional breakout year, things will be a lot smoother.

Additionally, Iowa makes a shload of money every year. Let's get rid of the biggest generator of money we have in the athletic department when we're already way down in budgets.

Re: We need to remove Iowa from schedule

I remember when Iowa said they wanted to remove us too.

It's a weird give and take, most people like the rivalry game and tix sales would suffer without it, but I think Iowa and Iowa State would both like scheduling a 95% guaranteed win against some cupcake team and go into conf play 4-0 every year and both teams getting to bowl games.

I just want to schedule teams we can beat by 3-7 instead of always losing the close ones.

I like to compete in games better than getting blown out by someone, but man this gets tough. Better just become good enough to win games by 2 or more scores and not worry about having to lose a close one.

Yeah, that is working really well. Seriously, I tend to agree with the comment. Playing Iowa every year does very little -- other than a boost in attendance for a home game every other year. It is, and probably always will be, a Hawkeye state in terms of football. So playing them and beating them occasionally doesn't do much. If the goal is to make a bowl game as often as possible, you might as well schedule 4 non-conference patsies to help in that regard. Not like Iowa State is ever going to be in a position where strength of schedule makes any difference.

Remove Iowa, and then move to the Missouri Valley.

Re: We need to remove Iowa from schedule

A lot of you are assuming we can beat all the cupcake teams. You realize we've lost to Kent State, UNI, Toledo, UNLV, etc. recently right? Season ticket sales would also fall without the Iowa game, especially in years like this year when we wouldn't play more than 1 team with a pulse at home (Oklahoma State). No one wants to pay to see North Dakota State, some other scrub, another team no one has heard of, Colorado, and Baylor.

Coach Rhoad's goal is to be competitive within the conference. You don't do that by playing the Blind Sisters of the Poor to start out the year. Iowa is always a good test for our offense coming into conference play.

If the goal is getting to bowl games, may I suggest you join the crowd of idiots talking about moving to the MAC

Re: We need to remove Iowa from schedule

If the ISU program has to worry for infinitum that we are going to get blown out by Iowa, we shouldn't be in the Big 12 Conference either.

If it is that rough of a game maybe it should come after the Conference schedule instead of before the Conference schedule.

Re: We need to remove Iowa from schedule

We better remove UNI from the schedule. Did you guys see how close they played Iowa? Additionally, we lost to them last time we played. Better remove Kent State from any future schedules. They beat us 2 years ago in Ames I believe. Better remove UNLV from any future schedules because, well, they beat us last season. Better remove Toledo from any future schedules because they beat us 2 seasons ago I believe. Who the hell is there left to schedule?!

Re: We need to remove Iowa from schedule

Basically, let's find a weak conference, and set up a sweetheart schedule so that we don't play the teams that are winning. That would be an inspiring success story.

Well I will agree that if you schedule like k-state you only have to win 2 home games out of four at home to get to a bowl every year....

Playing Iowa every year has its advantages too...losing gives hawkeye nation a must needed boost every year and it allows jon miller to bad mouth cyclone nation all year long....

If we beat Iowa once every ten years it would make most clone fans and sympathizers happy because even winning 9 out of 10 will put squawk fans into fits of depression... (psst squawk fans will never cotton to losing to us)
