Lets stop blaming the players and coaches and start blaming ourselves

I have said this before and been criticized for it but I will bring it up again. If we would have had 40-50 thousand fans at Arrowhead we would have won that game . If you don't believe that please stop reading now, I don't want to waste your time. People talk about ISU athletics being cursed. Winning is a state of mind, almost a culture that starts and ends with the fans. I have no doubt that Nebraska will return to glory in football because of their fans. If they would have played a team in K.C. Arrowhead would have been full. If you didn't go to that game you are just as much to blame as the coaches and players, even more in my opinion. We have just as many armchair QB's as Oklahoma and Nebraska but half as many truly committed fans that do their part. Either do your part or accept mediocrity!!!

I sure hope our players and coaches are focusing on KU this weekend instead of finding more excuses as to why we didn't win last week.

Re: Lets stop blaming the players and coaches and start blaming ourselves

I was there against KState...and watched the kick get blocked
I was there against Mizzou...and watched the kick sail wide
I was there against KU...and watched the kick miss badly
I was there against Bama...and watched the 'no good' kick sail over the upright.

I was there...and we are cursed!

Fan support is a good thing, but it is hardly what is going to make or break this program with the kind of support we have. The teams play on the field, and that is where the game is settled. Not to mention that we lost because of a blocked PAT...how are the fans to blame for that?

Keep supporting, showing up to games, and keep cheering...that is all we can do; but the crowd is not to blame.

Re: Lets stop blaming the players and coaches and start blaming ourselves

While I agree with the general idea of your post, I don't agree that we would have won just by having that many fans there.

Winning is a mindset. The first thing Paul Rhoads has to do is instill that mindset not only in his players but in the fan base as well. After someone hears something long enough they start to believe it. If our team hears for long enough the best they will ever do is mediocre, then they will start to believe that.

I believe this team years down the road can be fantastic. What is happening in colege football is leading to more and more parity. Look at South Florida. They have only been a team for about 10 years and they are a very solid team. Now, I know that is Florida and this is Iowa, but I see no reason this team cannot rise to the ranks of at least a Kansas or OK State. Those teams used to be garbage and now they are becoming something different almost on a yearly basis.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

You are right, the lack of a crowd is to blame.

Sounds like a "chicken and the egg" scenario.....

Which comes first? winning or better fan support?

Re: Lets stop blaming the players and coaches and start blaming ourselves

Take it from a Cubs fan, we the fans aren't the reason we lost. If having fans in the seats means the difference between winning and losing a team like the Cubs wouldn't have gone 101 years without a World Series Championship.

    Time to move on folks...
