Coach Mac quotes on B12 vs MVC in OWH

    http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pag...&u_sid=2338871

"There are some great teams in the Missouri Valley, so by no means do I want to cheapen what they've accomplished," McDermott said. "They had a great year a year ago, and appear to be setting the table for another great year this year.

"But the players are so good in the Big 12. You aren't playing against future NBA players very often in the Missouri Valley Conference. You see that a lot in the Big 12 - in some cases, more than one on the same team."

Also a story on a fictional all B12 freshman team (with W. Johnson) vs a all B12 upperclassmen team.

My two cents on McD's quotes, I've watched Creighton play in person many times over the last 7-8 years and can easily tell the overall talent is much lower in the MVC vs the B12. It seems to be a faster/athletic game in the B12. Even teams like Creighton and S. Illin would have a hard time to finish in the top 4 during a full B12 season.

that's not easy for big 12 teams to do either ...

I think teams like Southern Illinois, Creighton and Missouri State are comparable to Kansas State and Oklahoma State this year. They are solid, but lack the depth and NBA guys to be Big 12 title contenders.

Oh man, what a cool article. I agree with the all freshman team. Kevin Durant DOES deserve national player of the year. His numbers are scary and he's leading a tough big 12 league that has a couple national title contenders.

Re: Coach Mac quotes on B12 vs MVC in OWH

The difference between the MVC and the other BCS conferences is that the MVC keeps players for 4 years and become a "team" BCS conferences are almost turning into Juco's (2 years and done) Look at Texas last year. The conference has a lot of young players. The MVC is loaded with Seniors. Next year will be rough for that conference.
    Just my input.....

Man, I know I'm beating a dead horse but that's the kind of article I would like to see in the Register. That writer sounded like he actually knew something about the Big XII. It's good to see.

Excellent point! This is one of the big reasons some of these smaller schools get into the tournament and win games. Senior leadership is very important in March Madness.

MVC is not about the individual. There is usually not one star and the whole team shares the scoring load
