    Laptop Power Adapters

Mine apparently died last night, and Dell wants me to shell out $70 for a replacement, which seems quite high for a model that didn't even last 2 years.

Amazon has a third party manufactured one for $20 shipped, with decent reviews.

Any insight on if it's a good/bad thing to go with the cheaper one? Also, anyone know if you can get one cheap in an actual store? Thanks!

Dell's sure have crappy batteries. I had to replace my old one and got it from http://www.laptopbatterystore.com here. It was a little cheaper and had double the battery life.

Had the same problem. The adapter connection that is attached to the motherboard also went bad, so they needed to replace that. Twice. First time did it all for free, 2nd time it wasn't under warranty.

    I hate Dells.

My power cord doesn't "seat" into the hole very well anymore. I am hoping that is just that the attachment on the cord has worn down, but I hope it's not the problem you had.

    Re: Laptop Power Adapters

I wouldn't worry about buying generic power adapters or batteries. Just make sure you get the right one for your model and research who you buy it from if you have never heard of them. I've bought batteries off the internet before and the generic ones are just as good as the manufacturer brand.

I think that's what I'm going to do. I could be 3 generic ones for the price of one "real" one from Dell.

That's the same problem I had...

The cord would kind of wiggle a little bit which ended up shorting out the power adapter. Hopefully it's just the adapter for you, because this was a major pain in the ***.

Mine is more that it is just really loosely seated, and falls out easily. Is that kind of what you're saying?

Don't know what model laptop you have but my Dell XPS has a hexagonal adapter head and one of the only places I could find one was direct from Dell.

It's an Inspiron 1520 and has a pretty standard circular adapter head.
