    White State Trooper Car

For those of you that like to press the speed limit, I saw a white Charger today that happened to be a State Patrol car. That is the first time I have saw them have white cars, so beware.

They have had them for awhile. There are State Patrol cars in all colors and sizes now. I saw one in Ankeny that was a blue SUV.

I have also seen a silver charger on I-35 with cars pulled over multiple times by the 20/35 exchange.

I got pulled over by one those going to an Iowa game in 2006. Got a tint ticket on the same stop. Then I lost my wedding band later that morning.

I've also seen vehicles with civilian plates pulling people over. I thought part of the rules of "unmarked" cops was that they had to display government plates. This seems borderline illegal/unconstitutional, but I haven't done any kind of research to determine whether or not that is true.

My brother is a State Trooper and you would be surprised as to what some of them drive at different times.

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

They can do whatever they want. Sit in the dark with no lights on and so on. When they do that stuff it takes all the fun out of it.

That does seem a little odd... I thought all state cars had to have govnt plates, as well.

Again, I thought they had to have at least their parking lights on. Isn't that some sort of hazard with them sitting next to a highway or interstate without any sort of light on?

    this.

I can't help but laugh when people make comments like above, if they have government plates then they aren't unmarked. I had someone ask me once if police can turn off their headlights at night when they are parked off out of the traveled portion of the highway If other people can do it, so can police.

Did you know that a police officer doesn't need to actually pull you over to give you a ticket. If a office sees you violate a traffic law while he's off duty (and he knows who you are) he can send you a ticket in the mail. Did you know that a police office can legally break the traffic laws without his emergency lights on.

Also, I have to say that stuff like that is what makes it fun. My brother and his partner do all kinds of tricks to catch people, like acting that one car is broke down while the other car sits around a curve a mile down the road.

I was pulled over by a unmarked car with civilian plates on I-35/80 at Hickman Road. It is our legal right to tell the 'officer' to wait until a marked cop car shows up to confirm the validity of whether the person in the car is truly a cop. I can see this leading to more instances where people pretend to be cops and eventually someone will end up being killed by a poser. Always ask for backup from a real 'marked' cop when being pulled over by one of these 'unmarked' guys.

I would think the flashing blue lights everywhere and the uniform police officer walking toward your car would be enough for most people to realize that it is truly the cops. If you still had a question I would ask to see his badge and his department ID. If that doesn't clear it up for you, either you are just being difficult or you are the most paranoid person on earth.

    Re: White State Trooper Car

I have also seen a camaro on 35/80 by Des Moines/Ankeny. I will never speed around that curve.
Best thing I have seen in Ames is a unmarked Taurus that is either a dark green or blue and they have a CB system on the dash and I believe lights in the visors and mirrors. Best part of this is the license plates say: PO PO 2
