Crabtree ready to renew talks with 49ers

ESPN - Michael Crabtree is ready to renew talks with the 49ers, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.

The unsigned rookie wide receiver reportedly left Tampa Bay, where he had been training recently, for San Francisco on Monday.

"Any guy that can play and help us win, I would never say, 'No, we don't need him,' " 49ers coach Mike Singletary said. "We need all the good football players we can get."

Ya, I'm a Niner fan and I saw this coming a mile away. His agent has found out that the niners are most likely a playoff team this year. Now he realizes, "Hey I could play for a winning team that is young and has a future for pretty good money, or I could go to next years draft which will lose on either account. He could go to a ****** team and get the money but is very likely he will go past the first round giving him less money. I hope the Niner's sign him, but don't give him what their initial offer was which was around 20 with 16 gaurenteed. I would say 16 with 12 gaurenteed since the season is a quarter over.

Watch him come in and screw up the chemistry of the team.

It's one thing to hold out in baseball, where the first contract isn't guaranteed, you get minor league pay, you can have a longer career, and you need that bonus... Holding out in football is just stupid, he would lose a year towards free agency, a year towards the pension, and a whole years pay when you don't know how many you will get.

Crabtree doesn't really have the leverage that he thought he did as far as going back into next year's draft. He had people bending his ear about other teams willing to give him more money. The Niners have the upper hand in this game. They own his rights and can and will prevent him from working out for any other team prior to next year's draft. It's almost impossible for any team to justify using a high draft pick and offering a big contract to someone that they can't work out.

Re: Crabtree ready to renew talks with 49ers

Maybe he just looked at all his loser friends/family that are giving him advice ans thinking "hmmm... I'd be just like them if I don't sign this contract." He'd never make the money back that he's looking for by going back into the draft. He's no Randy Moss or Calvin Johnson. He's more of a Mike Williams/ Charles Rodgers.

Agreed. I hope there is some way that he can never sniff the field. Not going to happen I'm sure, but it would be great to see him get what's coming to him- nothing.

I don't necessarily want Crabtree to fall flat on his face. however, I also don't necessarily have a problem with the way Mike Singletary is going to introduce him to "Mount Pain" (he has his players bust their *** doing hills).

I can see the negotiations now... "I'm willing to come down $500,000 on my asking price." That's about how much production you lost while I sat out."

Re: Crabtree ready to renew talks with 49ers

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out now. I think a deal gets done, period.

I'm also interested to hear what Crabtree has to say now. I didn't follow this much before - did he really talk publicly about this? The whole thing could have been driven by the agent...but regardless, Crabtree did own the decision.

IMO, Crabtree could be best served to get a deal done and issue a public statement apologizing, admitting some fault and vowing to move forward.

Looks like Crabtree needs the 49ers more than they need him.

His whole situation and Marshall's stinks. They act like ******** and then are going to be allowed to play for a winning team. They should automatically be sent to the worst team in the league.

Re: Crabtree ready to renew talks with 49ers

I don't really see how he can afford to sit out and go back into the draft. I doubt he goes any higher and now that teams know he's difficult to negotiate I can't imagine that is going help either both finding another team to draft him then they have to sit down and try and sign a guy that thought his current offer was not enough.
