does ISU have a jumbo package?

i was really upset about the 3 yard loss on the 3rd and 1 at the KSU 20-25. I can't believe ISU still runs these short yardage situations out of the shotgun. It isn't like putting in a fullback and running a play under center is a new wrinkle.

I dunno about ISU, but I do......ha ha...

I suspect we do things like that because the coaches dont feel confident any anything else..yet.

I actually really like it out of the shotgun. It gives us a numbers advantage to have Austen run, still gives the defense the threat of the pass....and Austen can see the running lanes easier from the shotgun than doing a straight option play.

Or really used him until his last game....where he was making plays each time he touched the ball!

Re: does ISU have a jumbo package?

We should be running a pro style offense with the players that we currently have in the system but I understand why we don't. Herman has his offense and it can be very effective after a couple years of learning it AND get his players in here to make it work.

I agree though. 3rd and short should be a jumbo formation with a QB sneak or a handoff. Do that a couple times and it opens things up for Catlett and Franklin later on

Re: does ISU have a jumbo package?

A shotgun jumbo package would not be much different than one under center except the QB has more ground to cover if he chooses to keep it.

The QB and HB are both about 5 or 6 yards deep in a shotgun set. The HB is roughly the same depth in your basic I-Form. The only difference is a lack of a lead blocker.

Watching some of the Rice videos from last year they had a big set where they had TEs on the line and another TE lined up in the A gap between the Center and Guard. Not much different than your basic offset I with the exception of where the QB is.

We lost yards on that 3rd and 1 because our play action and short yardage passing is not working. Not because we don't have a jumbo set.

Ramming Koch in the hole over and over again was always a fan favorite.

In a jumbo I formation the back has a head of steam by the time he gets the ball and he doesn't have to wait for the ball to be snapped back to the QB. He literally has a .5 second head start. With our massive Oline there is no reason we can't pick up a yard when we go to the power I formation

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”
