    Thoughts from this weekend

Well, I'm glad this weekend is over. Unfortunately, I only heard the last half of the game because I was at a wedding (ironically in Iowa), but from listening to the second half I came to the conclusion that we gave them the ball game.

I don't mean to take anything away from KSU, they did what they needed to do to win and they won, but it was an upset. We were clearly the better team on the field, we just had too many injuries and too many stupid mistakes and we still had a chance to tie or win in the final 30 seconds. No one should be gloom and doom about our team now. Yes we lost to KSU, but that doesn't mean that bowl hopes are completely lost or the chance of at least winning a couple of conference games has gone down the drain. I think Rhoads will still meet or surpass Chiziks total win number, this year.

    Think about this:

Baylor 31, Kent St 15 at Baylor. We went on the road and played a better game against Kent St than Baylor played at home. Baylor allowed 424 yards of total offense including 165 yards rushing. ISU only allowed 302 and 47 respectively. And yes, Kent St was starting the same QB and Jarvis is still out. We also put up more offense than Baylor. Don't think that Baylor isn't a winnable game.

Texas A&M 19, Arkansas 47. People said that this game would show what A&M is really made of and I guess they were correct. A&M does have an offense, they just don't know what to do with it and their defense isn't anything to brag about. Arkansas is an okay team, but I would guess they aren't any or that much better than Texas Tech is right now. This is definitely a winnable game.

Colorado24, West Virgina 35. This game was closer than I thought it would be, however, WVU had a day similar to ours against KSU. Too many turnovers and costly mistakes kept the door open for Colorado, but it still wasn't enough. They still don't have a running game and Hawkins just isn't good enough of a QB to carry the load. On a side note, Colorado only has 3 conference games against non-ranked opponents and only one of them is at home, there is a very real possibility that Colorado may not win another game.

There are still three winnable games, but not much room for error. I still think we may upset someone this year and I have my eyes on Missouri. Anyway, hold your heads up- Rhoads himself said we didn't play well- things will get better.

KSU was also a winnable game and we found a way to lose. Almost anytime we've heard "winnable game" over the past few years, it's ended up in the loss column.

As I said following the Army game, it was the best I felt about ISU football in the last 3 years. I also noted we needed to continue eliminating mistakes. Against someone with a pulse, we made mistakes and plenty of them. We also can't handle adversity, still.

And Oklahoma is no power this year either. Big 12 looks really weak and if there ever were an opportunity for us, this year would be it.

Someone is trying to infer we could win the North (amusing) and OU would win the South (not gonna happen) and therefore, we could exact our revenge on them (full out belly laugh).

True and sometimes you lose the winnable game, that's why it's winnable and not a lock. The fact is we still have a winning record in games we thought were winnable and one of those teams is better than we thought. As I said, there is no

FWIW..silver lining. I thought ISU handled the adversity of committing 2 second half T.O.'s...a broken play 50yrd TD heave by the KSU QB...the D getting a huge 3 and out with 2min to play to give the offensive another shot...in which they themselves conducted a great 2 min drill which resulted in a TD.

I thought the team hurt themselves, but never quit and put ISU in a position to take the game into OT. ISU teams of the past would have given up 2-3 firsts downs and let the other team run out the clock.

I'd say they handled some in-game adversity pretty well.

In the end, no. The team did not overcome adversity and - outside of the final drive, the offense did nothing in response to turning the ball over twice. For this team, when things go bad, it comes to a screeching halt.

In addition, the team allowed one bad thing (turnover) turn into another bad thing (points).

I would agree with you, however...the PAT block was AT the end of the game. Outside of the Onside Kick...game was done.

From what happen since the Cattlet fumble, ISU did enough to put itself in a position to take the game into OT. Years past...it wouldn't of overcame the fumble, KSU would of tacked on a few more TD's and ran out the clock.

Our D held enough to put the offense, which did Jack after the fumble, in a position to have the 2 min drive. The block PAT is all that will be remembered. But in terms of in-game adversity, this team put itself BACK into a position to tie and or win the game at the end.

What this team does with handle the added adversity of being labled a "cursed program" or being known as the team that invents ways to lose games, well that remains to be seen.

    Um, no. Overtime remained.

The game went quickly downhill and all momentum went to KSU and remained there for the rest of the game, minus the final ISU drive. The defense again was not our liability, but gave up some big plays on silly poor execution.

The goal is not to get a game into OT, it's to win it in regulation.

I will wait until gametime to see about this. At this point, I'm not holding my breath. Groin injuries are not quick healing.

As has been noted, he said ARob will play against KSU. Which he did, just not much at all.
