    Buying a TV online

We're considering buying a 46" LCD TV online. There seems to be a lot of good prices right now. Have any of you done this? Any good or bad experiences that you would share? Are there any companies in particular that you would stay away from? Thanks.

95% of the time you'll be fine. It's the 5% you worry about but I suppose you can have that issue at any big box retailer too.

I bought my Sony Z4100 40" from Amazon. Probably like you, it was by far the biggest purchase I had ever made online. I was nervous. But I had friends who had done this, with all great outcomes.
What clinched it for me was Amazon's 30-day return policy. I had nothing to lose, except a shipping charge if I returned it. I love the TV, and would do the same thing again.

    Re: Buying a TV online

I bought my Samsung from Amazon, and my in-laws Sony from Dell.

    Both were great.

Stick w/ the better known and respected sites, I doubt you'll have any trouble.

Next step - buying a car online.

    Re: Buying a TV online

Bought an LCD from Amazon about two years ago. Looked at the TV at Sears, found it on Amazon for $400 less. Delivery was pretty quick and the driver even helped me carry it in and pull it out of the box. I was very happy with the experience.

Amazon is safe but just becauee you are on the Amazon website doesn't mean the TV is from Amazon. It will say when you choose your model so check on that first.

Also bought from SEARS a 46 inch SAMSUNG at a special 3 hour SUNDAY night sale for about $400 less than the best "online price"

Yep, I bought mine on Amazon as well, and had signed up for the interest free payments. But, the interest free payments don't apply when the TV actually comes from a 3rd party, which mine did. I still saved about $400-500, which I would have paid at Best Buy or American or something like that. So, I ended up ahead in the end...

    Re: Buying a TV online

I have bought a couple TV's and other electronics on-line. Try using www.cnet.com.

You can find your TV and compare prices along with testimonials on the retailer. Most time there's an on-line retailer that's much cheaper than Amazon.

    Good luck,

Tigerdirect.com used to be pretty good.

Amazon is a good place too.

I used Welcome To Vanns.com to buy my tv, had a good experience. Free shipping and it arrived in about a week.

    Re: Buying a TV online

I would buy one online if it was a big savings but only from someone that had a store nearby where I could return it. When I was looked at 46" plasma's and LCD's I didn't see any savings more than $50 by just buying from American. To me the $50 savings isn't worth it.

    Re: Buying a TV online

As it turned out, we found a good enough price locally to buy it here. You did help ease some of the fears if we had decided to go that way. Thanks for taking the time to help.
