    OT:Black Donnellys

Did anyone else see the pilot last night, it is amazing! It's like "Boondock Saints" the tv show or an Irish Sopranos. Definately hope this show makes it.

That show was awesome. I hope they keep it after Hero's. Right now I would say my top 3 show's are NCIS, Hero's, and The Black Donnelly's.

Your right tough it reminded me of Boondock Saints.

I didn't catch it, but if you are right and it is similar to Boondock Saints, then it will be pretty friggin sweet.

It's similar to Boondock Saints in the sense that the Donnelly's are steadfast Irish brothers with a violent streak and an apparent knack for killing mobsters.

    The similarities probably stop there.

That is too bad. Since hearing about the Boondock Saints sequal, "All Saints Day"(which I've heard about for years... not sure if that is true or not), I've been pretty excited to see it. One of my only pleasant memories of living in crappy old RCA was watching Boondock Saints with like 30 people every couple weeks. I hope they eventually decide something on making/releasing that movie. But I suppose until then maybe this show can get me through.

Anyone else have info on "All Saints Day"?

Troy Duffy, the creator, stated that the sequel was tied up in a legal battle for the past 4 years and now is cleared up. "All Saints Day" and another movie he is making, "The Good King", are trying to get financial backing now and whichever gets it first will be put into production. This was as of 2 months ago, haven't heard anything else since.

the show is definitely one to watch...especially for regular cable tv. They are playing an encore Thursday night if you missed it last night.

    Re: OT:Black Donnellys

I wasn't overly impressed. I don't know much about organized crime (just what they show on TV and movies), but the ending seemed kind of too easy. If that was all it took, why wouldn't someone else have done it sooner? And the love interest thing just seems tacked on and stupid.

The way the ADD Icecream was telling the story to start got irritating, and then it stopped, to the point that I almost forgot the whole thing was as he was telling it to the cops, then the dude showed up again at the end.

I did really like the explaination of why Jimmy wouldn't leave Tommy (or was it the other way around?)

That said, at least there wasn't 8 billion commercials every 30 seconds, with about 15 seconds of information in a one hour show. Lost and Heroes, I am looking at you. And it wasn't about doctors, lawyers or cops. And it wasn't a reality show. So that makes it near the top of a pretty smelly heap, I guess.

I don't know much about organized crime either, but I assume it's fear of retribution that keeps people from killing mobsters. And after watching the previews of next week's episode, retribution is on its way.

Yeah I agree. That being said, she will almost certainly play a larger role in future episodes.

    Re: OT:Black Donnellys

Sorry, but I just don't find ethnic stereotypes entertaining.

The show starts off with 4 Irish brothers starting a fight, in a bar, during a wake. Followed by the theft of a delivery van which ends up having the stolen merchandise re-stolen (probably by some Irish). Next comes a squelch on a bet with an Italian bookie, whom they kidnap. The Italians fight back and beat the crap out of one of the Irish brothers (Sopranos-style). Two of the remaining Irish brothers kill the Italians. By the way, years ago the Italians killed the brothers' dad.

The only thing missing was a potato famine, a priest, and an IRA bombing of some English people.

I don't understand how people find this entertaining. If that's entertainment, here's a couple of ideas for new shows:

    The Black Steinbergs
4 Jewish brothers own a bank. They make their money by being stingy with Gentiles and charging exhorbent interest rates on loans. All the while they have to deal with the naggings of their mother.

    The Black Changs
4 Chinese brothers own a camera store. They spend their days eating at Chinese restaurants and breaking boards with their feet and hands. After hours of studying calculus, they go out for a relaxing drive in the car, but can't seem to see where they are going.

    Give me a break!

Easy Michael Richards! Those shows are bad ideas because they are boring, but I could handle an Amish one with buggies, candles, and horse plows. That movie with Tim Allen was awesome!

Basically if you don't stereotype it is a boring show. How about cop shows where all of the evidence is right there for them and there is a good cop/bad cop stereotype.

Irish mobsters are an interesting group of people so it works. Italian mobsters are legendary in there status. It's not a stereo type it's reality. Ever here of John Gotti and the Gambino family?
