Iowa to sell tickets to watch ISU game in Kinnick

Sounds very possible. Story on front page of today's Register, www.desmoinesregister.com. I bet they outdraw the game at Trice easily, if they can get broadcast rights. Hell, they used to get 30,000 when they had a spring game.

Re: Iowa to sell tickets to watch ISU game in Kinnick

The point is, this will stir up the ISU-Iowa debate and add some fuel to the fire.

Personally, if I was Iowa - I'd do the same thing. I won't get on them for doing it.

And I think it would be awesome if ISU did something like this for a road game. Talk about a fun way to watch a game and a great way for the university to raise some cash.

I agree it's a good idea. I just don't want to be embarassed by having 30,000 people watching the state's biggest game...and like the article said, have 30,000+ watching it at Kinnick.

Sounds great. I couldn't think of anything better than no Iowa fans coming to Ames.

Re: Iowa to sell tickets to watch ISU game in Kinnick

I must admit that it's a clever way to ratchet up the rivalry even higher than it is, if that's even possible.

However, the fact that it's being organized by the University of Iowa's Assistant Marketing and Promotions Director is what bothers me. There's no doubt this event is a deliberate attempt to start a boycott to the game and, thus, to cause financial harm to Iowa State University. Now it's one thing for some Hawkeye fanatic to try to organize something like this, but it's a totally different thing for the University of Iowa to do so.

If they pull it off, it could cause irreparable damage to the relations between the two institutions and lead to a discontinuation of the rivalry.
It doesn't shock me, though, that the University of Iowa would be so short-sighted to try a stunt like this. They better be ready for the consequences.

Re: Iowa to sell tickets to watch ISU game in Kinnick

How is this only a way to boycott the game? Do you honestly think the Iowa fans won't buy up the single game tickets and stay in Iowa City? C'mon, Iowa is going to sell out their allotment easy.

So here is a game that will be sold out one way or another. Can't get tickets to it.

I can't think of a better environment than tailgating outside your home stadium for an away game and then going inside to watch it on a bunch of big screens. The only downside to watching a road game in the stadium instead of somewhere else is you can't drink beer.

Fun day for fans and easy money for the school.

I seriously hope this is something Pollard will do in the future - I don't care if we're accused of copying it or not. Iowa sure isn't the first to do something like this if it takes place.

Pollard is always looking to raise money for the athletic department - this is a great way to do it. Charge $5-10 at the gate and sell the heck out of concessions. A guy could easily setup some sort of concert on the field for long breaks and halftime.

I really, really like the idea. I just we were the ones doing it.

FYI the U of Iowa never wanted to play the game against Iowa State. When Earle Bruce went into Kinnick and beat the squawks 31-0, the squawks worst fears became true.

Then they had to hire a real football coach to put us in our place. Now that we're building something in football, the U of I naturally wants to discontinue the football game.

To the U of Iowa's thinking this state is only big enough for one good football team and they're gonna do everything to keep ISU in their place.

If they discontinue this series... I for one will not cry about it. I'll just go on and watch more Iowa State football games!

Why would you drive to Iowa city just to watch it on a big screen? I dont think it will work.

I think it would be great. That will leave the Pukeye's and their stench away from Ames. That leaves more room for Cyclone fans to come to the game.

If that game don't fill Jack Trice Stadium to the brim with Clone fans, no game will. Come on Clone fans...

Re: Iowa to sell tickets to watch ISU game in Kinnick

Who cares what Iowa does, and who cares how many people they have show up to this thing. We should just worry about what ISU does, and their plan is very good! It does us no good to worry about what that school is trying to do too one up us.

On that note, there is no way in hell they will get more people in kinnick then we will have at JTS, in fact, I would be willing to bet they dont have half as many show up.

I'm not seeing an article on this anywhere on the DMR's website. There is also nothing being discussed on HN.com.

    So....where's the story?
