Re: State to mom: Stop baby-sitting Neighbors' Kids!

On strict interpretation of the law the state has a point. That being said, it's an overreaching law that needs to be more narrowly tailored to regulate in-home daycares instead of friends watching children until the school bus stops by.

Yeah if she was watching the kids all day, I would understand. Watching them for an hour or less while the bus comes. Give me a break

I read that this morning too. It is a dumb. It says they acted on a neighbors complaint. What kind of neighbor complains that someone is watching other kids at a bus stop in the morning? Jeez. Mind your own business.

This is the exception to the rule. There are lots of unlicensed in-home daycares, my mom used to be on the licensing board, and truly bad things go on if unlicensed and unchecked.

I wonder if the person who filed the complaint was a licensed in-home daycare provider? That's rediculous.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

What kind of parent takes their kids to an unlicensed daycare? Nothing like shipping your kids off for the day to the lowest bidder.

This is just crazy, and unfortunately this kind of "regulation" is becoming more normal.

What happens if Grandma wants to watch the kids and doesn't charge for her services? Should grandma have to be licensed to watch her grandkids?

I shouldn't even dignify your question with a response, but I think the answer is fairly obvious. FYI, the law in question only applies to non-relatives.

What if she watches her grandson and one of his friends?

The law only targets "non-related" persons.

That being said, this was still a gross misinterpretation of the law. She must have a really nice neighbor...

And perhaps I shouldn't dignify your answer with a response if you are not capable of thinking of the other options I was leading to...Grandma, neighbor watching children on a temporary basis, close friends that the parents are comfortable with, etc.

Re: State to mom: Stop baby-sitting Neighbors' Kids!

My guess is that it was a licensed day care provider who turned them in because they feel they are losing business. If you are not charging, why would you need a license? Makes no sense.
