Martin in the lead - still p/t?

Yeah I know many on here don't enjoy NASCAR
But for those of us that do this is worth a look.
    http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2007...nofficial.html

After two races Mark Martin who is running part time this year has found himself in the lead! Anyone think he'll switch back up to full time?
Mark has always been a class act and if he chose to run full time I know I wouldn't hold it against him

Re: Martin in the lead - still p/t?

I think if he is still in contention after 10 races or so, him and his team may reconsider the part time thing.

He had a legitimate shot at winning the title last year...and he has a better car this year so who knows...

shoot, Martin's old ride is sitting 5th. I think things will be WAY different after 10 races. You'll see your perennial contenders back up front. Ginn racing will start to falter, no way Nemecheck should be in the top 10.

Re: Martin in the lead - still p/t?

I heard on Sirius NASCAR radio this morning that he was quoted as saying that "If I'm leading the points going into Bristol it won't matter, I am staying part time, and will not drive a full schedule. I am tired." That could all change of course since he did retire last year because he was done before signing on to drive again p/t plus in other races. Trucks and Busch? I think he should go for it if he is in position, but who knows what the crazy old fart is thinking. I think the guy is half insane anymore after his responses following Daytona and when he was essentially knocked out of the title hunt last year. He almost has that old age dementia look about him and he is always so damn happy following a set back. While I admire the positive attitude I like a little anger in there as well.

I agree with everything posted so far. 2 races does not a season make. I'm sure the team discussion meetings are fun right now. Even though it's early you know they must be begging him to stay.

    so, 2 questions...

    1. Who appears to be the favorite for a championship after 2 races

    2. Who has the most work ahead of them?

    1. It has to be Kevin Harvick. Obviously he won Daytona and was in a great position to win yesterday but unluckily had a flat with 4 to go. Keep your eye on my boy, Tony Stewart. He has had 2 great cars. After being wrecked while leading at Daytona, he had a top 5 car again yesterday but couldn't keep his lead foot off the gas on Pit Road.

    2. I think it's Jr. He is sitting back in 41st in points and hasn't really been competitive yet.

Of course this is based on only 2 races but you have to start analyzing somewhere.

    1. Even though I'm not a big Gordon fan with him in 3rd you know he's ready to keep it going.

    2. Mike Waltrip. Starts out with a points fine for Daytona, and then doesn't qualify for the second race. That or Jr. You know he can't be happy to be 225 points out of first this early.

    1. Stewart's 2 pit road penalties are hurting him big time, he has got to have more passing points than the other 42 drivers, haha

    2. Don't forget about Evernham, I wonder if he's putting all his resources into the COT

Kahne finished 7th at Daytona (although he should have finished 15-20 if it wasn't for the demo derby at the end). He was also leading the race yesterday before blowing a motor. You can bet that Kasey will be up there in a few weeks.

I have a novel idea for you...don't post in the NASCAR threads. It's really not a hard concept. If you don't like it, don't read it.

    Ohh gee, another nascar thread,
brianhos do you realize your arrogance on this topic? To me this is similiar to the thread on why ISU fans can't stand Hawk fans. You have an attitude that you are superior to those that follow NASCAR. You have called us hillbillies. Hawk fans call use hicks. Any different?

    agreed..

    1. I think martin will go with his plan the reason he is racing is to have some fun i dont think he is wanting to go all season

    2. Dale Jr has had very fast cars the last 2 races and both times just has had bad luck, was in the wrong place at the wrong time at Daytona and the unleaded fuel i believe was the reason for the engine going out in Cal. look for him to be a dark horse this year and with that said also look for his teammate to be a dark horse.. Martin Truex Jr has been very fast in these 2 races

3 Kevin Harvick has to be the favorite so far this year

    4. of course you have to watch out for Tony and Jeff

    5. last but not least i like the way Clint Bowyer has been racing he is very aggresive and also had bad luck at the 500 but finished well at Cal finishing 6th

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."
