    6. They started counting FCS victories towards bowl eligibility a few years ago, I think.

    We're not bowl eligible yet?

I believe NDSU counts and we only need 6 to be eligible.

    Re: bowl eligible

6 wins for us will make us eligible. K-State, on the other hand, will have to win 7 as they have scheduled and beaten two FCS opponents (you only get to count one FCS victory in any given season).

I'm sure somebody in the AD has checked out the grant-in-aid requirement for NDSU.

I thought they lost one of those games.

    This.
You can only count 1 FCS win per year. Also, 6 wins is the minimum, but it doesn't garauntee that we would get a bowl. Just ask Hawk fans. They had six a few years ago and didn't make it.
The way the big twelve is shaping up this year, if ISU gets to 6 wins, they should get a bowl.

They lost to Louisiana-Lafayette, a member of the Sun Belt. They beat their two FCS opponents.

I believe that's just in there so you can't count a win over a non-scholarship FCS team like Drake or an NEC team that only gives out 30 scholarships.

    Re: bowl eligible

Its 6 wins but the bowls have to take all 7 win teams before they start selecting 6 win teams. So 7 wins absolutely guarentees you a bowl game. I remember Kansas didn't go to a bowl game a couple of years ago after winning 6 games.

What you said is partially true. However, six win teams CAN be selected before seven win teams if your conference has a tie-in with a bowl and that slot can't be filled with a seven win team from your conference. If your conference's bowl slots are all used up and you haven't been selected, another bowl can take you as an at-large, but only after every seven win team in the country has been selected. That's where the rule comes in.

The Big 12 has eight bowl slots. That means there's room for nine teams if the Big 12 gets two teams in the BCS, which seems very likely. Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri are locks to get to bowl games. Texas Tech and Texas A&M are also very likely to make it. That's eight teams.

Now it's between ISU, Baylor, Kansas State, and Colorado for the ninth spot. Baylor is without Robert Griffin for the rest of the year and they play a tough South schedule plus Nebraska and Missouri (and ISU of course). Kansas State needs to win five Big 12 games to get to a bowl. Colorado needs five more wins, and their upcoming schedule is at West Virginia then the Big 12. ISU only needs three Big 12 wins to get to a bowl, and they have the easiest schedule, getting CU and Baylor at home and Kansas State at a neutral site. Not saying we're going bowling just yet, but we clearly have the best chance out of the bottom four to eek out six wins and get that ninth bowl slot.
