    Hey Deace and Miller.....

I don't remember reading that Banks admitted to posessing marijuana, I read he admitted to owning a jar that was in his room, most likely before it was tested for residue. Maybe he was unaware his roomate used it to sort his seeds out or something like that, so to state that he admitted to posession would be jumping to conclusions at this point as well.
Not saying it was handled perfectly, and not saying a reasonable person wouldn't draw a conclusion from point A to point B. Problem is we don't know the facts.
This isn't Rhoads first encounter with someone in trouble, he did suspend a player who got an OWI earlier this season.
There is a legal situation and it is quite possible he was told not to discuss it, could he have said we'll handle internally and can't discuss until the system had it's chance, sure.
Not sure why this gets all the attention, but Clayborn has a more serious charge hanging over him, and hasn't missed a game pending the legal outcome, which conveniently was delayed until after the season.

    Re: Hey Deace and Miller.....

We didn't say he possessed dope, and we didn't say he smoked anything. A caller said he probably smoked it, and I jumped in immediately to say that we do not know that at all.

Our point is that the message it sends to play Banks, when he had admitted to an item containing dope residue to be his, its a tough precedent. It's not a huge deal legally, and I suspect any charges will get dropped. But that's likely due to legal wrangling. ISU could have made this go away, even if they reinstated the players, but just didn't play them against Army.

Correct, we don't. The fact we do know is the players were suspended and then immediately reinstated, with absolutely zero explanation. And didn't miss a snap.

So, Banks/Rhoads get a pass because we don't know the facts, however, facts are unknown because the legal outcome has not run its course and people are still harping on Clayborn/KF.

The hypocrisy with off-field issues here is obvious. Fortunately off-field issues are rare in Ames as of late.

I don't think thats what you said...I think there were numerous instances where you said he posessed the marijuana, not just the jar with the residue.

I don't get why the played either, but with the idea that Rhoads probably knows something we don't, doesn't that pretty much explain it? You guys mentioned how he could've sat them down and it all would've ended, but what if all of the facts of the case (the ones the general public has) don't support that? Rhoads had every reason to sit him for the week, the fact that he didn't makes me want to believe he had just reason for doing so. He isn't as stupid as Steve was making him out to be.

    Re: Hey Deace and Miller.....

I pretty much agree with most of what M&D were saying this morning from 7-7:30 at least.

Do I think that smoking/possessing weed is the worst thing in the world, no. The part that I think was wrong was the way that things were handled.
I don't know all of the legal aspects as far as lawsuits can go if the players were not reinstated and the charges turn out to be false but I agree with the fact that playing Banks on Sat against Army was a horrible call.

ISU needs to be better than this, excusing someones behavior just because its "not like he robbed a bank" is crap. I'm not trying to take shots at Iowa because in all reality we just did the same thing and I think that it is wrong, no matter what team it is.

The opportunity to play football at any college is a privelage. If you put yourself in front of the team by making stupid decisions then you should have to pay some sort of a price both on and off the field. At least a one game suspension would have sent the message that PR will not put up with stupidity and players putting themselves in bad situations. By letting him play PR has set a bad precident.

    Re: Hey Deace and Miller.....

I thought the American system of justice was as follows.

    1. Arrest
    2. Trial
    3. Determination of guilt or innocence
    4. Penalty

Why is it that some people think that for athletes we are supposed to skip steps 2 and 3 and go directly from arrest to punishment. Are they not deserving of due process like everybody else.

All I know is that Banks has been convicted of nothing. Why should he then be punished?

No, I did not. A couple callers said things along those lines, and I corrected them. I never said he possessed dope, not once.

I guess I'll take the fall for that one then...

Any comments on the fact that Rhoads has said that all of the information has not been made public, so perhaps the judgements for now should wait? Especially when he could've easily suspended him for the Army game and taken the easy way out.

Didn't one of the articles in paper about this say that Banks had admitted that the stuff (whatever it was) was his?

    Re: Hey Deace and Miller.....

I too have found it really ironic we celebrate one player with charges awaiting trail and lambast the others in a similar, though lesser charges, for their alleged discretions.

    Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
    'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'

Bottom line, whether there is a good reason for it or not, no one knows.

Regardless, the way it has been handled leaves something to be desired and I think we could respond better from a PR perspective.

Right now ISU is open to justified commentary, right or wrong.

    Re: Hey Deace and Miller.....

Deace said he admitted to posessing it, my point was he admitted to posessing a jar, which isn't illegal, maybe after it tested positive, someone told him they used it.
The other two didn't play, Hamlin hasn't played this year so that was expected, Laing has played, and likely would have played especially late in the game with a defensive end injured, and against a running team.
