    Wildcat Formation: Did you know...

That the Wildcat formation was named after what Bill Snyder did at Kansas State back in the 90's? Maybe this is a well-known fact but I had no idea. Here's how Bill Snyder described it today in his teleconference.

Q: The Wildcat formation has become awfully prevalent over the past few years. History says that it is named after a formation that you ran back in the day. How is it different now compared to back when it all began?

A: Itís very similar to what we are doing right now. Iím not up to date on what everyone else is doing. It just made sense to us, a long, long time ago that you could put somebody back there who may or may not be your quarterback. You are able to run the ball very well but still have the capacity to throw it. With that, you kind of help yourself out with the numbers game. I think that the way we fell into it was that we were a very good defensive football team (in the 90ís). We became a good defensive football team because we were able to put more people in the box than someone could block. We had more numbers than the offense. It (the Wildcat formation) was a product of us, working against our own defense.

Memo to you...direct snapping the ball to a half back goes way back into the history of the game. And, Arkansas under Houston Nutt is generally credited with popularizing this type of offense in today's game.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I'd be a bit concerned if CPR ever said this.

KSU looked pretty good running vs UCLA. Thomas was gashing the Bruins for 7 - 8 yards a pop.

And KSU looked pretty horrible in losing to UL-Lafayette.

Yeah, that would be disconcerting, to say the least. Maybe Snyder is starting to go "Joe Pa" down there...

You are correct sir. Its very similar to the single wing....surprising that KSU isn't widely recognized for this, I remember them running it and after all, it is called the wildcat.

Re: Wildcat Formation: Did you know...

Anyone else notice that the Wildcat is pretty much an ineffective offense in the NFL this season? NFL defenses have caught on to the gimmick, just like college defenses will eventually as well.

Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

Well, they already gave him an extension, so now he can just put 'er on cruise control and not care anymore. I mean, that's what I would do if I was 93 years old.
