    R Parker Status

Sorry if this is somewhere else but is there any update on status of Parker's injury?

    Re: R Parker Status

I can't imagine it's good. My guess it's Maggit time.

It always sucks to see a 4 year starter go down like that. Could he get med red shirt at this point?

I'm guessing not. He is a loss, no doubt about it. Laing and Maggit need to step in.

I would guess no med red shirt. That was game 4. I would think most med red shirts are given to guys that only played in a game or two?

    Re: R Parker Status

I thought the medical redshirt rule was playing in less than 1/3 of the season's contests? Game 4 is the 1/3 mark, so it would come down to whether or not the cut-off is before or after the 4th game. I remember in 2007 when Zac Sandvig tore his ACL at Nebraska, he couldn't get a medical redshirt because it was Game 5 so he just missed the cut-off.

    Re: R Parker Status

He never used his redhirt and the players seem to think he will get a redshirt since he didn't play a full 4 games.

But yes he is out for the year

    Re: R Parker Status

It could be a big help next year if Maggit and Laing do well and develop into solid players this year, and we get Parker back. If Maggit keeps playing like he did saturday, it should help a lot. He's not at Parker's level yet, but has lots of potential.

    Re: R Parker Status

It's really tough to see Parker go down like that - I can't imagine what he's going through right now. Hopefully he'll get a full recovery and I wish him the best. I've got a lot of respect for that kid and I was hoping he'd have a great SR year.

the NCAA official 'guideline' is if the player plays in less than 1/10 of the contests in a season he is elidgble. It's not in the ncaaa by-laws since they look at each individual case and obviously set it up this way to help out the name schools and continue to screw the little guys. That said, they sometimes do go over the 1/10 rule if the player only played a few plays in the games or if there are other extenuating circumstances. In Parker's case, it would be nothing short of a miracle if he and ISU were granted another year by the evil NCAA.

This sucks. You can really see all the work he put in during the offseason. I really hope he can play next season.

    Re: R Parker Status

Why would anyone want Parker to get a redshirt and come back and play next year? He's been an average player here with a few descent games. He's never developed any size or consistency in his play. If the defense wants to improve next year they are going to need players much better than Parker on the field.

You must not know the current depth chart and our depth at DE. Bringing Parker back another year will obviously help with depth, but also experience.
