    Peavy for Zambrano?

While its purely speculation at this point, there has been some buzz recently regarding a Second City swap of Jake Peavy and Carlos Zambrano. Peavy, as you may remember, listed the Cubs as a team he was willing to be traded to when the Padres first looked to move him. Zambrano has solid numbers for the year, posting an ERA of 3.69 and 8 strikeouts per 9 innings.
With just two starts in black and white, people are already wondering if Peavy will be a part of the team's 2010 plans. Big Z has had a very strong September (2.81 ERA, 38 K's in 32 IP) but frustrations on the north side of Chicago have put every Cubbie under the gun.
Starting in 2010, the continuation of Peavy's contract will pay him $52MM over three years plus a club option. Zambrano will earn $53.75MM in the next three years with a vesting player option for 2013 worth $19.25MM.
Could an intra-city trade of this magnitude ever happen? Should either team pursue such a trade or is this simply a case of the grass being greener on the other end of the Windy City?
Well Cubs and White Soxs fans what do you think?

    Re: Peavy for Zambrano?

From a Cub perspective I would take it. I think Zambrano has better stuff, but doesn't seem to know how to be consistent.

    Re: Peavy for Zambrano?

What happens if Zambrano uses this trade as motivation to get his act in gear and Peavy stays injured?? I'm sure the Cubs don't want to lose another Lou Brock.

    Re: Peavy for Zambrano?

    Um, no.

I don't understand most of that rambling incoherent mess. Why would two awesome starts make the Sox wonder about Peavy's future?

    Peavy >>>> Zambrano.

I don't know why Cubs fans like the guy at MLBTR automatically think the Cubs are able to swing any damn deal.

We don't get any better by trading for a pitcher who is hurt all the time.

    Re: Peavy for Zambrano?

Hurt all the time, huh? Pretty sure both times he got hurt were freak occurrences this year, once running the bases, and once getting hit by a ball. He's gone 200+ IP in something like 3 out of his last 5 seasons, and has gone at least 27 starts in two more.

But you guys enjoy your nutcase.

You guys are crazy. Peavy is BY FAR the better the pitcher than Z. Stop being homers.

Again, I think Zambrano's stuff may be better, but he doesn't seem motivated to pitch to his potential. So I would rather have Peavy. I'm with you.

Maybe the trade talk will make Carlos sit-up and take notice.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

Zambrano and Ozzie would be an interesting mix. It would either be perfect or an indescribable meltdown....no in between.

There was a certain former Cub who people used to say the same thing about. His name is Mark Prior.
