Cyclones of the Week: Army Game

Alright Fanatics. One of my best friends got married last night. i was in the wedding party and unable to attend the Army game. Having said that, I'm not going to vote on our two Cyclones of the Week.

Let me know who you'd vote for on offense and defense? I look forward to your insight.

Re: Cyclones of the Week: Army Game

    Offense: ARob. No doubt.

Defense: Wally Burnham and his staff. Did a phenomenal job of preparing the D for an offense some have probably never faced, others not since their HS days 3-4 years ago, and none of them as prolific at it as Army. All in one week of practice. Credit to the players for stepping up and holding a run-strong team to well below their season average. Credit to the coaches for establishing a game plan that fits the players, rather than trying to force players into something they can't run. Most here on CF seemed to be surprised that we went nickle, but Wally and staff obviously saw something that the nickle could counter better than a base package.

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Re: Cyclones of the Week: Army Game

KO had his guy on the ground a lot. We were very successful running behind him it seemed. Gotta give this oline some love

I thought the entire defensive line did very well for being so thin in numbers and the fact that Army had a decent Time of possession advantage. Hard to not get too tired.

He did an excellent job of celebrating after not doing anything and being targeted repeatedly because he isn't very good.

Even so he was definitely not our defense's player of the game. LJ and Lyle were our best defensive players last night.

    Offensive line

Jesse Smith or LJ, both played great games.

    Dline played well also.

I also can't see giving it to K Banks. He was getting lit up by the QB. Coaches made an adjustment and switched LJ over to the QB's left side on some plays (he was left handed), and defense shut down the passing.

I agree with Benton. We played in a nickel and he was respobsible for a lot of containment and read and I thought he did a beautiful job of playing his lane and playing with control.

It's all snark from here on out
