    Benton at OLB

Did he move there for just this game or is it a for good move. Seem to be smart to have a quicker player there for the spread.

We were playing in the nickel so they had the extra defensive back.

    Exactly, don't confuse a nickel with a 4-3.

He sure played a lot tonite. Why play a nickel vs a running team?

    Re: Benton at OLB

He was in the nickel today, but he has put on a ton of size this year... I could see him moving to LB if he continues to add mass...

I think it's as easy as putting the best players on the field.

It seemed like Raven didn't play a ton tonight, but I could have just missed it.

He wasn't playing as much until Army started throwing a ton in the 1st half, then I think Wally figured it was as beneficial to have him on if they were going to pass as such and he is still capable playing against the run. Having him as a nickel back, w/ KB not being suspended, is a huge strength entering Big 12 play IMHO.

Must be good old Wally that made the masterful decision. Their running game was stifled.

helps to have some extra speed to get to the pitch man with the nickel against the option

    Re: Benton at OLB

Benton adds extra speed, and we don't really lose a "size" advantage against Army.

I didn't notice Raven playing either and he was not listed in the participation report. Benton played very well and was the right choice for defending Army. That said, Raven has also played well this year and one would think that he would have at least gotten some snaps against Army. I wonder if he might have been nicked up.

I thought Raven played the best game defensively, after Lyle, against Kent.

    Re: Benton at OLB

I was at the game tonight & Benton played A LOT in Raven's spot. It wasn't nickel, it was a straight-up 4-3 with Benton playing OLB. I realize Benton has been our nickel back so far this year, but trust me he was playing linebacker tonight. It would be interesting to hear from Wally if this was a game specific decision to defend the option or if we might see it some more later.

Refreshing to see a coach make adjustments and players executing for a change.
