    The Freshman Wall

In games like tonight's, I try and find something positive to follow during the game. Usually, that is Wesley's awesomeness, but that has been lacking of late. My question is do you believe he (or any freshman) hits the wall in college BB? I look at KU's Collins, Durant, Augustin, Conley, etc. They don't seem to hit a wall. Earlier, I brought up my opinion that I think WJ has fallen in love with the three-pointer, and that has lessened his effectiveness, not that he has hit the wall. Even Coach Mac referred to him hitting the wall. Is this just a crutch or excuse, or is it real?? I know the season is grueling, but the nation's top freshmen are still doing well.

P.S. Don't see this as a bashing of WJ...he is still my favorite player!!

    Re: The Freshman Wall

I think WJ is hitting a wall. The reason the other guys aren't?

I think they came into college in a little better physical shape. The biggest reason though, they have a much better surrounding cast than ISU does. Wesley has been forced to play a ton of minutes and do so facing guys bigger than he is.

    It's wearing on him.

I've stated before I wish he'd get back to his former self - less threes and more interior play - especially rebounding. I wonder if G-Mac has asked him to increase his perimeter play in order to keep Wesley from completely getting drained.

The off-season should be huge for him.

    Re: The Freshman Wall

I absolutely believe Wes has hit the wall for this year. Remember, he didn't get to play ball last year as his school dropped it just before the season. Those other guys (Augustine, Durant, Collins, etc.) all had their senior seasons to stay in shape, and actually play games, Wesley didn't get that.

Totally agree about the off-season. Can't wait to see him next fall and say, "That's Wesley Johnson!!?"

At 195 pounds I'm not sure how you can ask more of him than we have already. Today Kansas was obviously much bigger, not much we can do about that until the offseason and get these kids in the weight room. Even Fran said Wesley needs about 4 milk shakes a day this summer.

Nice job sneaking a Kelis reference into a thread about a skinny college basketball player! Tough to do.

Side note: A good friend of mine sang one of Kelis' songs with her...Mr. UFO man.

Now that we've completely changed the tone of the thread.....

During this offseason, who do you think needs to add the most weight/muscle to their bodies?
