    SATA to eSATA question

    Calling CF tech gods again:

My question is this. If I get power to an internal hard drive, is there a cord that I can buy that would go from SATA (which plugs into the motherboard) to eSATA which I have on my laptop?
Or would that even work at all?

Mostly want to see if I can still get anything off of a hard drive.

I ask because the HardDrive made some 'interesting' sounds on my desktop and now appears to be messed up pretty bad. When I try to start to computer it goes past the BIOS screen ok, goes to the load Windows XP 64 with the progress bad, but once it looks like the progress bar is done (the time it would normally display the desktop) it quits and then trys to do the process over again.

    Re: SATA to eSATA question

Amazon.com: Tripp Lite P952-18I eSATA to SATA Signal Cable, 7P-M/7P-M - 18in: Electronics

there is the cable but you also need to get power from the power supply to the hard drive.

I would buy one of these
    Newegg.com - AZiO ENC211SU31 Aluminum 2.5" Black eSATA & USB 2.0 External Enclosure - External Enclosures

external hard drive enclosure that way you can still put another hard drive in it to do back ups and what not.

    Re: SATA to eSATA question

That's cool I just want to test it to see if I can pull some stuff off of it.
Power is easy as the desktops Power Supply is still fine.
